TCU beach volleyball split the first day of the Battle on the Bayou Saturday, losing to No. 8 LSU 4-1 and defeating Jacksonville State 5-0.
The Horned Frogs were originally scheduled to play against New Orleans during the first day matchups, but inclement weather canceled the game.
In the matchup against host school LSU, the Horned Frogs’ Jordan Westendorff and Brooke Sassin defeated the Tigers’ Riley Young and Maddie Ligon 21-13, 2-22, 15-13 for the only victory of the match for TCU.
In TCU’s first-ever matchup against Jacksonville State, Hannah Rogers and Avery Arellano cruised to a 21-11, 21-8 victory over the Gamecocks’ Grace Jarnagin and Bethany Randall while Westendorff and Sassin defeated Maddie Cloutier and Ashley Clingan 21-11, 21-8.
TCU’s Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe were also victorious against Jacksonville State’s Hailey Hughes and Shayla Schmidt 21-15, 2-19, while TCU’s Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene defeated Hannah Kirk and Kaylie Milton 21-5, 21-15. The Horned Frogs’ Haven Hill and Cassie House finished the sweep by defeating the Gamecocks’ Katie Will and Sadie Anderson 21-12, 21-14.
TCU beach volleyball split Sunday’s games at the Battle on the Bayou to close out the 2018 regular season.
The Horned Frogs defeated Houston Baptist for the second time this season with a 3-2 victory but dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 11 Georgia State, their second loss to them in three matches this year.
Against Houston Baptist, TCU’s combo of Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe defeated the Huskies’ Bailey Banks and Katya Silveria 21-13, 21-7. Jordan Westendorff and Brooke Sassin were victorious over HBU’s Danielle Wheeler and Mikayla Vivens 21-14, 21-18.
TCU’s Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene defeated the Huskies’ Kayla Armer and Tori Hinojosa 21-14, 18-21, 15-7, capturing the win for the Frogs.
In the matchup against Georgia State, TCU’s Kristy Weiser and Avery Arellano defeated the Panthers’ Allie Elson and Maddie Gordon 21-14, 21-17. The duo of Westendorff and Sassin were victorious for a second time on the afternoon, defeating GSU’s Kate Novack and Amie Held 21-18, 23-21.
The Horned Frogs finished the regular season with a 10-22 record. The NCAA Championships begin May 4 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
