TCU fought back in all three sets against Iowa State Wednesday but fell short in each and were swept by the Cyclones in front of another sold-out crowd.

“Tonight, we had a hard time getting it going,” head coach Jill Kramer said. “Our serve and pass game wasn’t as crisp as it has been and we could feel that in our offensive play. Iowa State played a great match.”

Offense was hard to come by in the first set for the Horned Frogs. Sophomore Katie Clark finished the set with three kills, but the Cyclones won the set in a blowout fashion, 25-15.

TCU started the second set by delivering a pair of blocks to go with a group of Iowa State errors to go up early in the set, 10-5. First-years Audrey Nalls and Julia Adams joined Clark in leading the offense during this run. 

After Iowa State regrouped and took the lead, the Frogs would go on to win 13 of the last 17 points but couldn’t hold the momentum, dropping the set 25-22.

In the third set, Iowa State got out to an 18-10 lead before the Frogs went on a 7-1 run, led by a block and a kill from élan McCall and two more blocks from Afedo Manyang. However, the comeback attempt fell short again, and the Cyclones won the final set 25-23. 

“Really great defense, we had some long rallies,” Kramer said. “But we needed to bring a much better performance.”

Clark ended the match with 10 kills, making the contest her seventh double-digit performance of the year and fifth in nine conference matches. 

Six of the middle blocker’s kills came in the third set, the most she’s had in a single set since her career-best 21 kill performance against Texas Tech Oct. 6.

The Frogs will look to rebound on the road against Kansas State. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
