TCU volleyball adds three more wins to the column after a successful two-day stretch of the Fight in the Fort tournament.
If leaving the tournament undefeated wasn’t enough, outside hitter Melanie Parra showed the court why she was named AVCA Offense Player of the Week, earning back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Week.
Parra broke the 24-year-old school record for most kills in a three game set with 23. The record was previously held by Amy Atamanczuk, who recorded 22 against Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 19, 2000.
Under head coach Jason Williams, the Frogs have improved to 19-2 in home openers with the 3-0 sweep.
Parra was the engine of the team’s offense, recording 73 total kills and five blocks. Jalyn Gibson was a second force with 33 total kills.
Almost half of Parra’s total kills came from Friday night’s match with UCLA, where her final stat line included 33 kills and nine digs.
Setter Lily Nicholson was the catalyst to TCU’s offensive success, tallying 124 assists over the two-day stretch of matches.
New faces met the court as freshman Bryn Shankle recorded her first collegiate block in the third set against Texas A&M Commerce. Redshirt freshmen Becca Kelley and Alexis Roberson also saw minutes on the court.
The Frogs move into their next matchup on a roll as they host UT Arlington on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. CDT inside the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. The matchup will be televised on ESPN+.
