A national publication dedicated to empowering the voices of college women has increased its engagement on TCU’s campus and continues to provide an outlet for all majors to write.
Three years ago, TCU’s Her Campus was struggling to meet the national requirements to remain an active chapter. Now, it has over 40 members, representing a growth rate of 81% in three years.
Colleen Wyrick, the president of TCU’s Her Campus, is a senior English and communication studies double major. Under her direction, social media engagement has increased, brand deals have started coming in and more readers and articles have been published.
“Being the senior editor, editor-in-chief and now the president has taught me strong leadership, organization, and communication skills,” Wyrick said.
The organization was decommissioned in 2017 due to a lack of members and engagement, but has now more than doubled.
In addition to increasing membership, the group’s Instagram followers have grown by 32% in the last semester. The chapter has gone from publishing four or five articles a week to nearly eight articles a week.
Wyrick joined as a first-year student and is now the longest-active member of the TCU chapter.
When she first joined, there were only five to 10 people at meetings. Now, there are 40 active members in the chapter who are attending meetings.
“I can always share how I’m feeling with the Her Campus community and leave the conversation feeling a million times better,” said Anya White, a senior business information systems major and marketing director for Her Campus.
The TCU Her Campus executive board has planned upcoming events that any student is welcome to attend, including a Christmas-themed meeting on Dec. 4.
