No excuse for Patterson’s lie

Gary Patterson has been consistently tight-lipped during most of his time at TCU, but few thought before last week that the words he did utter might be laced with half-truths.Patterson admitted in Friday's Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he lied to reporters about senior Tommy Blake's condition, saying the star defensive end was out with a stomach bug when he was actually hospitalized.

It's much more than just a little white lie, though, because he didn't just lie to reporters.

He lied to the fans.

A graduate student will be the clarinet soloist performer with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra this weekend after winning the TCU Concerto Competition last year.Myoung Song, a 40-year-old wife and mother, will be playing the clarinet for the second time with an orchestra.

Born and raised in Korea, Song said she began playing the clarinet in high school. Song went to college to learn music, but after having an unfair conductor, she quit playing when she graduated, she said.

Police suspect attempted kidnappings related

Two men arrested after an attempted kidnapping of a female student early Saturday morning may have been involved in two other kidnapping attempts in the area, a police spokesman said Tuesday.The connections between the attempted kidnapping of the 21-year-old student and the two other attempted kidnappings during the last week are still under investigation, said Lt. Paul Henderson, Fort Worth Police spokesman.

Campus advertising firm hires fresh face

Just in time for Real World Integrated Marketing Communications' first anniversary, a new hire will bring years of expertise to the agency. TCU's student-managed marketing communications and public relations agency has hired a 13-year veteran as copy chief.

Real World now has Margaret Ritsch as one of two advisers to the agency. The agency provides students the opportunity to work on promotional campaigns for nonprofit organizations.

SGA proposes ID cards used at football games

Student Government Association approved a resolution Tuesday to consider the use of ID cards at TCU sporting events. The resolution was passed unanimously after it was presented at the weekly house meeting.

According to Bill 94-2, SGA representatives support the use of student ID cards at all sporting events, and rather than having the money go on send home, the representatives propose to have the money taken directly from each student's individual meal plan.

Dean makes plans for new AddRan building

The dean of AddRan College of Humanities and Social Sciences said he will rely on his prior experiences when working to raise funds for a new facility for the college. Dean Andrew Schoolmaster, who served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University before coming to TCU, said the placement, cost and estimated completion date for the new building will be decided later.

Jodi Campbell, associate professor of history, said the department is in need of a new building.

Football alumnus gets seven years for drug charges

A former Frogs football team captain has been sentenced to seven years in prison. LaMarcus McDonald, 26, plead guilty in court Tuesday to possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, said Ellen Watson, spokesman for the 19th state District Court in Waco.

According to an Aug. 29 Waco Tribune-Herald article, McDonald was pulled over for an expired auto registration and the police found 11 "rocks" of crack cocaine worth about $220 in an aspirin container as well as a gun found under the seat.

Growing up, music has helped to define feelings, emotions and memorable moments in my life. Whether it was belting out Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" during a night out at Pete's Piano Bar or bumping and grinding at a nightclub with a random female to The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize," music has undoubtedly shaped our outlook on how we look at life.

For me, Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" changed the way I felt about TCU football this season.

Team faces ranked foe in Austin

The football team will not be the only squad to make the trip down I-35 in the next week. The soccer team will open its season against the No. 9 University of Texas Longhorns in Austin, today.On Sunday afternoon, the team will return to Fort Worth for its home opener against the Utah State Aggies at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.

Senior forward Lesley Parkinson said the team is not intimidated by facing UT.
