Sophomore left fielder adds serious attitude to team

Published Mar 30, 2010

Sophomore left fielder Jason Coats walks out right as the chorus of Breaking Benjamin's "I Will Not Bow" begins, but neither Coats nor the crowd ever hear the end of it. Every time, the scoreboard operator has to cut the music short as Coats steps in to the batter's box.

In his defense Coats doesn't really hear it, or at least doesn't make any deep connection to it. It's just something to entertain the fans as he goes to work. And make no mistake; hitting a baseball is not a game for Coats.

Sexting impairs the future of teens

Published Mar 30, 2010

In most states, teenagers younger than 18 can be punished with serious consequences, including being charged with felony production of child pornography and having to register as a sex offender, for "sexting" to other teenagers. Sexting is identified as sending risque messages or photos of themselves via computer or cell phone. According to The New York Times article "Rethinking Sex Offender Laws for Youth Texting," lawyers and legislators in various states are now trying to lessen the punishment for teenagers guilty of sexting, and I agree with them 100 percent.

The Pope should take a stronger stance on sex scandal

Published Mar 30, 2010

Don't get me wrong. I am aware that plenty of opposition toward the Catholic Church exists on a variety of different topics. But the one that receives the most attention from anti-Catholic antagonists is the issue of sexual abuse that seems to be running unchecked in the church today.

Earlier this month, Pope Benedict XVI issued a pastoral letter to the church in Ireland apologizing to victims of sexual abuse at the hands of clergy there. However, this letter was met with skepticism and anger by many Catholics, and for good reason.

University to celebrate 100 years in Fort Worth

One hundred years ago on March 22, the university's former administration building in Waco, Texas burned down. Nearly every building on campus was destroyed, leading to the university's relocation to Fort Worth, a move Chancellor Victor Boschini said is one of the university's most defining moments of the past 100 years.

"Six or seven cities vied for TCU, and the people that were then the leaders of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the people that were the leaders of Texas Christian University felt Fort Worth made the best offer," Boschini said.
