Sexting impairs the future of teens

Published Mar 30, 2010

In most states, teenagers younger than 18 can be punished with serious consequences, including being charged with felony production of child pornography and having to register as a sex offender, for "sexting" to other teenagers. Sexting is identified as sending risque messages or photos of themselves via computer or cell phone. According to The New York Times article "Rethinking Sex Offender Laws for Youth Texting," lawyers and legislators in various states are now trying to lessen the punishment for teenagers guilty of sexting, and I agree with them 100 percent.

Panel discusses the next step for innovation in journalism

Published Mar 26, 2010

Journalism is a process, not a product, and just because newspapers may become extinct doesn't mean journalism will as well, said one of three industry entrepreneurs Thursday afternoon as part of the Schieffer School of Journalism Green Chair "Far Out: The Frontiers of Journalism" panel.

"I think too often we equate journalism with the newspaper...journalism is a process, it is a series of things we do," said David Cohn, founder and director of the Web site Spot.us, a nonprofit open source project to pioneer community powered reporting.

Peer alcohol-awareness program may be more effective

Published Mar 26, 2010

When taking advice on alcohol and drugs, students are probably more likely to listen to other students than professors or parents. That's the thought behind the creation of a new peer education program called Frogs CARE. The purpose of the group is to increase alcohol and drug awareness.

The university hasn't had a program like this in recent years and, given the prevalence of underage drinking both on and off campus, it's a good idea.

Chapman was signing copies of his book, "Where Mercy is Shown, Mercy is Given." Chapman, his family and entourage arrived 45 minutes late, but that did not deter his fans and followers, who filled the first level of the bookstore. Attendees included more Fort Worth and Tarrant County community members than TCU students.
