Friday forecast leaves little chance for snow day

Students expecting a snow day Friday shouldn't hold their breath.

The area south of Fort Worth is predicted to get snow Friday, but there is only a 30 percent chance of flurries Friday afternoon, and they would affect the area closer to Waco than Fort Worth, said meteorologist Daniel Huckaby of the Dallas-Fort Worth National Weather Service office.



The National Weather Service Web site reported snow accumulation of 0.3 inches in Fort Worth on Wednesday.



Provost Nowell Donovan said snow like Wednesday's would not send students home tomorrow.

DFW Duel ends in Horned Frog victory

The men's basketball team completed the second half of the DFW Duel by beating the SMU Mustangs 60-53 in Dallas.

The Horned Frogs capitalized on defensive rebounds and a string of Mustang turnovers that began the second half to come back from a 28-23 deficit at the break. TCU point guard Ronnie Moss got up to block a Mustang shot with 28 seconds left that would lead to a Frog victory in Moody Coliseum.

TCU endowment losses less than national average

In the wake of the global economic downturn many universities lost considerable value from their endowments and were forced to make budget cuts.

James Hille, the university's chief investment officer, said the average university endowment in North Texas fell 22 to 23 percent.



According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, universities with an endowment value more than $1 billion lost an average 20 percent of the total value of their endowments. Harvard lost about 30 percent of the value of its endowment and was forced to make drastic budget cuts.

Where the Frogs stand in the BCS shake up

This Sunday, the football team will find out where they will be spending early January. While the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar Bowls are all possibilities, reading the BCS tea leaves and an understanding of how the bowls are chosen leaves one option most likely.

First and foremost, there is an order to how the BCS bowls select teams every year. Once the automatic qualifiers are placed in their bowls, the remaining slots are "drafted" from eligible schools.

AddRan to fill Scharbauer Hall later this month

Eight AddRan College of Liberal Arts departments, along with the AddRan dean's office, will be moving into the new Scharbauer Hall in late December.

Andrew Schoolmaster, the dean of AddRan College, said the John V. Roach Honors College and the departments of political science, modern languages and literatures, Spanish and Hispanic studies, philosophy, economics, sociology and anthropology and criminal justice will move into Scharbauer Hall Dec. 28 and 29.

Schieffer school plans to launch program in Washington

Next fall, Schieffer School of Journalism students could have the option to spend the semester in the nation's capital.

The director of the Schieffer School, John Lumpkin, said the department planned to launch The Schieffer School in Washington program in fall 2010.



"The Schieffer School in Washington will be a program for juniors and seniors that will provide virtually a full-time internship and also a way to continue to make progress toward their degrees," Lumpkin said.
