Obesity prohibits you from doing a lot of things. According to the Trust for America's Health, adult obesity rates increased in 23 states and did not decrease in a single state during the past year. Most would consider such a condition to be detrimental. However, maybe it can be used in your favor.

A jury in New Jersey convicted Edward Ates of murdering his former son-in-law after rejecting his not-so-convincing defense that he was simply "too fat" to have run up and down a flight of stairs to commit the crime and make a quiet exit.

Interfraternity Council creates new position

The Interfraternity Council has added a new position to its office by splitting an old one, an IFC official said.

Grant Gossett, IFC vice president of student recruitment, said the council has decided to split the position of vice president of finance and administration into two separate positions. That position will be replaced by the new posts of vice president of finance and vice president of administration. Gossett said splitting the position should simplify each job and keep the workload from piling up on any one person.

A Philly cheesesteak cooked up in Texas probably isn't expected to taste like an original cheesesteak from Philadelphia - especially when the owner of the joint is from Florida.

Scott Wilkes opened up Billadelphia's II, located at 2110 West Berry St., eight weeks ago. Billadelphia's II uses the same ingredients and menu as the original Billadelphia's, which is located in Bedford, Wilkes said. Wilkes partnered with Bill Walter as co-owners of the two establishments.

Battle of Bands canceled due to lack of interest

Programming Council canceled this year's Battle of the Bands because of a lack of interest, a Programming Council representative said.

Emily Chan, director of live events and a sophomore strategic communication major, said the event was canceled because the word was not sent out early enough and because bands were not interested.



The event was scheduled to take place Nov. 13, and the final battle was going to be during the tailgate Saturday, Chan said.

Nike unveils new Frog uniforms

Nike allowed campus bookstore patrons to unlock the vault that housed the new Frog uniform the team will wear Saturday against Utah.

Each patron was given a card with a code that unlocked the vault. Certain codes allowed patrons to win free T-shirts.



The new uniform is a purple top with gray pants and a black helmet. The helmet, pants and gloves all have a scale-like print on them which resembles a horned lizard.



The uniform comes complete with custom purple and black shoes and gloves with a horned frog on the palms.

College GameDay coming to Fort Worth

College GameDay coming to Fort Worth

Frog fans will get the chance to experience College GameDay live this week leading up to the Nov. 14 game against Utah.

According to espn.com, GameDay will bring their set to the campus of TCU for the first time in school history to broadcast their weekly show and spotlight the TCU vs. Utah game. The set will be built in the campus commons, according to gofrogs.com



This will be the third week in a row GameDay will spotlight a Mountain West Conference game. Saturday, GameDay broadcast from Air Force.

SAN DIEGO - The Frogs proved they weren't going to fall into a trap on Saturday as they easily dispatched the San Diego State Aztecs 55-12 at Qualcomm Stadium.

With possibly the biggest game in school history looming next Saturday versus Utah, the Frogs (9-0, 5-0) maintained focus on the task at hand and played strongly on both sides of the ball versus the Aztecs (4-5, 2-3).



Head coach Gary Patterson said that focus paid off in the form of a strong start for the offense and defense.

Black towels with pink ribbon to unite campus

In an effort to find a compromise between the Pink Out vs. Black Out controversy for the Nov. 14 Utah home game, the Interfraternity Council has voted to order 3,000 black towels with pink ribbons attached, said Evan Berlin, IFC president.

A Facebook event urging students to wear all black during the same game as TCU's fifth annual Pink Out game in support of breast cancer research and awareness, has sparked controversy across campus. The Facebook event was canceled after significant backlash.

Students get creative to watch football games

From cross country road-tripping to backyard game-watching parties, students got creative in their efforts to catch the away games of the undefeated Horned Frog football team, a senior student said. Geoff Dice, a marketing major, said he and his roommates traveled to the Clemson game, but took a different approach when the Frogs faced BYU.

A recently-acquired set of projector equipment and a 110-inch screen enabled the three men and about 80 of their friends to view the game from their own backyard.

Residents ignore frequent GrandMarc fire alarms

Because of the frequency and sensitivity with which the fire alarms are activated, students have been ignoring the alarms in the GrandMarc apartment complex, a GrandMarc official said.

Although the GrandMarc has only actually had the alarms go off four times this semester, instances like the one on Oct. 23, when the alarms went off at about 3 a.m. for a period of two hours, desensitize students to the seriousness of the alarm system, said Tobi Sander, the GrandMarc's director of community operations.

New football uniform now on display in bookstore

The new TCU uniform that will be worn during the Utah game Nov. 14 has been put on display by members of the Nike Street Team in the TCU Bookstore on Friday. The complete uniform is hidden in a large lockbox, which will be unlocked by one patron Sunday. The patron who punches in the correct code on an electronic lock and will receive a replica of the new jersey.

The bookstore is also selling t-shirts with a picture of the new helmet the Frogs will wear Nov. 14 along with a black "Won't back down" t-shirt.
