Attempts to ban saggy pants unrealistic

Published Oct 14, 2008

The latest fashion trend in communities seems to be banning saggy pants.

The Fort Worth City Council, along with a handful of other city councils, is looking for ways to get young people to pull their pants up.

Because actually banning saggy pants could be considered a violation of people's first amendment rights, city councils have been unsuccessful in creating city ordinances that ban saggy pants, according to a Dallas Morning News article.

Fedoras a great addition to all closets

Published Oct 14, 2008

If you're having a bad hair day, in need of a cover up for the purple dye that won't wash out of your hair from last week's game or just looking to put a little Humphrey Bogart in your life, the fedora hat is coming back in style.

Typically made of felt, with a curled brim that is creased down the length of the hat, a fedora will definitely put a little gangster back in your life (Roger Rabbit, anyone?).

Blaring music from idle cars annoying to pedestrians

Published Oct 8, 2008

As most students do several times a day, I have to cross University Drive to get to and from classes scattered about campus.

Simple enough in itself, it is made somewhat slower by the heavy "green" traffic on bicycles and the folks who congregate in large blobs and have conversations in the middle of the walkways. I am willing to look past all those distractions so long as I make it to class on time.

Club sports in full swing during Break

Published Oct 8, 2008

Some students will be going clubbing over Fall Break. But they won't be going dancing, they will be playing for their club sports teams.

Two TCU club teams - ice hockey and men's soccer - are scheduled to be in action this weekend, all in the midst of Fall Break. However the club tennis team opted out of a tournament because of the break.

Matt Benvenuti, a junior from Newport Beach, Calif., said he isn't too distraught to be playing club ice hockey over Fall Break.

Most would point to next Thursday's showdown with No. 8 BYU as the biggest upcoming game for the Horned Frogs. At his press conference on Tuesday, head coach Gary Patterson said Saturday's game with Colorado State is the only one that matters right now.

"This week's meeting with the players only lasted about two minutes," he said. "I told the guys this Colorado State team is the second-best team they have faced to this point, and they will have to bring the energy on the road."

Sitting in the garden of his family home in West Fort Worth with the sunlight shining on his light brown hair, he is not what one might expect when going to meet a Buddhist monk.

Judicial Board appointments leave trio of Greek brothers

The Student Government Association House of Representatives approved two new members of the Judicial Board in Tuesday's meeting despite reservations about how three of the five board members belong to the same Greek organization.

President Thomas Pressly nominated representatives Alex Carr and Chad Dresser, whose approval required a two-thirds vote from the House. Dresser is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and is the third board member from the fraternity.
