Scotland native becomes curator for annex gallery

TCU's newest acquisition is an import.Gavin Morrison, originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, has been hired as curator for the College of Fine Arts' new off-campus gallery that will be housed in the old Perrotti's Pizza location at the corner of West Berry Street and Greene Avenue.

Morrison was living in south France when, three months ago, he was contacted by a former colleague in Houston about the curatorial position at TCU.

"What I liked about the position was that everything was fresh," Morrison said. "I can establish the structure and program."

Freshman’s hat-trick ignites soccer in win

A big performance from a high-scoring freshman is what the soccer team needed Wednesday as it heads into conference play, the head soccer coach said.Freshman forward Jackie Torda recorded the first hat trick of her college career and led TCU to a 5-2 win against Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

Head coach Dan Abdalla said it was a great outing for the freshman forward, who now has nine goals on the season.

Editor's Note: The Daily Skiff was not allowed to interview the coach or players after the game.The volleyball team did not let its undefeated record at home go down easily Wednesday, but a Big 12 opponent proved to be too much for the Horned Frogs.

The team lost a five-game match to the Oklahoma Sooners (31-29, 25-30, 30-18, 27-30, 15-17) - a match that went down to the final point.

With both teams coming off back-to-back loses, the Frogs drop to 15-5, while the Sooners improve to 13-4.

Volleyball: Team hoping to break two-match skid

It's not quite the Red River Rivalry, but at least one Oklahoma Sooners volleyball player said she will be confident when the Sooners visit Fort Worth tonight.The 15-4 Horned Frogs welcome a 12-3 Oklahoma team for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at the University Recreation Center.

Oklahoma senior outside hitter Mariana Blum said the Sooners are a good team and it's important it doesn't drop consecutive matches.

"I'm sure we're going to win tomorrow and get back on the rollercoaster of winning games," Blum said.

New SGA bill allows more campaign funds

Executive Student Government Association candidates will be able to spend an extra $300 on their campaigns in November after the House passed a bill Tuesday, 27-14, to extend campaign expenses in the Student Body Code. Kelly Barnes, sophomore class representative, proposed the bill and said the motivation for the legislation was fueled by the low voter turnout last year and the lack of advertisement options for less than $200.

Who will be the Horned Frogs' starting quarterback for Saturday's game at the University of Wyoming is questionable, but the team will look to a steady running back and a mobile backup quarterback to continue its success.Redshirt freshman Andy Dalton has started every game this year for the Horned Frogs, but after leaving last week's game against Colorado State in the first quarter with a severe bruise, it is still uncertain whether he will play against the Cowboys.

Orchestra to perform dance music

Salsa. It's not just something to dip your chips in. It's a dance students can watch and learn today.As a part of Hispanic Heritage month, the Dallas Latin Youth Orchestra will be performing all types of dances from salsa to Latin and jazz, said Joanna Bernal, co-coordinator of the cultural months planning committee.

Greg Trevino, adviser for the cultural months planning committee, said the orchestra will perform for about 45 minutes during which students can watch and dance along to the music.

A surge in the number of students riding bicycles on campus this semester has sent pedestrians diving for the nearest patch of grass.

If the rising popularity of the bicycle is any indication, there are good reasons to consider an alternative means of transportation to walking or driving on campus.



The panic when you wake up and realize you have class in 10 minutes is a good place to start.



With a bike, a 10-minute walk can turn into a three-minute ride.
