The Student Government Association hopes to make students more aware of student discounts available at local restaurants and businesses with the creation of a discount program, the student relations committee chair said.The program is the result of a resolution written by committee chair Justin Brown that passed unanimously in the House of Student Representatives meeting Tuesday, which calls for SGA to create a single list of discounts available to students off campus and allows for the possibility of creating signs for participating businesses.

The TCU tennis team has run into a lot of problems with the National Collegiate Athletic Association recently, but coaches and players are wondering if it could be the association's fault.An international student who spoke only if he would remain nameless who played tennis in his home country while enrolled in a university Romania accepted prize money for his sport as a student-athlete. In his country it was legal to do so.

A student's dream will come true next week at the New Hair Institute in Beverly Hills, Calif. Russ Jowell, a 22-year-old senior, won his dream of a full head of hair on ABC's "The Great American Dream Vote" last week.

Jowell was among eight contestants who revealed their wildest dreams on the show in hopes of receiving the most votes from American viewers. He received 30,000 more votes than his final competitor, a woman who wanted to build a Basset Hound sanctuary.

"This is the highest point of my life right now," Jowell said. "It's just all so surreal."

Good nurses ask questions. That's the bottom line, said an Arizona State University nursing expert. Alyce Schultz, the associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Evidence-Based Practice, presented a lecture called "Promoting Evidence-based Practice at the Point of Care: Creating a Spirit of Inquiry" on Tuesday to a group of about 45 nursing faculty members and Fort Worth-area nurses in the Bass Building. Susan Mace Weeks, director of the TCU Center for Evidence-Based Practice and Research, said Schultz's topic can be applied by staff nurses in hospitals everywhere.

Organic food sales are up an estimated 15 to 21 percent from last year. Typically, organic food costs up to 30 percent more than produce in a regular produce section.People seem to be more concerned about the types of food they are putting in their bodies, but is it because they really care or because it's what the mainstream person is doing?

The board of trustees approved a $315 million budget Friday, including increased employee compensation and additional financial aid for the upcoming school year at its final meeting of the year.The new budget includes $9.4 million in additional compensation for employees and $6.4 million in additional financial aid. It also includes $500,000 to improve student life, including student health and well-being, housing and student services, according to Tracy Syler-Jones, assistant vice chancellor for marketing and communication.

The Student Government Association rejected a budget proposal for the first time in several years because of record-keeping discrepancies in the Activities Funding Board.Jace Thompson, student body president, said the budget was not passed because SGA wants to reduce funding to the Activities Funding Board.

"The reason we cut funding is not because we want to cut activities funding but because (we) didn't have records of how organizations spent their money," Thompson said.

Earlier this year, TCU broke with the long-standing tradition of requiring only freshman to live on campus. Starting in the fall, all first- and second-year noncommuting students will be required to live in university-approved housing. Students and university employees are entering uncharted waters. It is in this venture into the great unknown that Residential Services has dropped the ball. First, let's start with the situation in the new dorms. Touted by the university as the greatest thing since Christ and moveable type combined, they have everybody fighting for a space.

Today's news is filled with negativity - that's why many of us don't watch the nightly news anymore. All we ever hear about is murders, violence, burglaries and the like. We hope and pray we will never miss hearing about someone we know in a context like that. Nobody wakes up in the morning expecting to hear on the news that something tragic has happened to someone they know.Unfortunately, last week, something tragic did happen. March 26, a Keller woman was strangled by her husband.

The No. 28 Horned Frogs baseball team will try to get the first win against a Big 12 opponent of the season tonight against the No. 21 Oklahoma University Sooners.The team extended its home winning streak to 18 games after taking a three-game set from the University of California at Santa Barbara Gauchos last weekend, bringing the squad's record to 21-8. However, tonight's contest will be played on the road in Norman, Okla. as the team starts an eight-game road trip. This could present a problem as the Horned Frogs are 7-8 while suiting up away from Lupton Stadium this season.
