Movie Review: ‘Man of the Year’ fails on all counts

Remember the days when Robin Williams was considered one of the funniest working actors in the business with hits such as "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Aladdin" and "Death to Smoochy"? Well it's sad to say, but we may never see that Williams again.In his recent endeavors such as "RV" and "Robots," Williams just doesn't cut the mustard, so to speak, and his latest attempt, "Man of the Year," fails to muster many laughs.

Professor urges students to learn about plus/minus

The plus/minus system was once again the topic of discussion at Tuesday's Student Government Association meeting when a chemistry professor asked SGA and other students to continue learning about the system. "I challenge the SGA and the students of TCU to go out and ask two or three of your professors about what they think on the issue of the plus/minus system," said Bob Neilson, a chemistry professor.

Neilson said he wanted to make sure students know how faculty members feel.

With the frenzy of football upon us - and the elation and dejection that it can bring - it is also important to remember this:The members of the football team are not the only athletes who deserve your interest, your support - and most importantly - your presence.

It's true, whatever your favorite sport, be it cross country, lacrosse, swimming or soccer, it's very likely you'll be there to support it. The thing is, when you attend a sporting event, you're doing more than supporting the team and sport. You are also showing your support and pride of the university as a whole.

Junior and senior students came to the Student Center Lounge Tuesday to participate in Graduate Professional School Day where 30 other university graduate programs from around the nation came to promote their graduate programs to TCU students.Ann Reynolds, director of Career Services, said she hoped this event would make students aware of opportunities associated with graduate school, but said the university hopes students stay at TCU.

Famous 70s and 80s rock outfit Heart took the stage at Billy Bob's Texas in the Fort Worth Stockyards Friday and rocked solid from 10:30 p.m. to after midnight.From the opening number until the end of the show, the band didn't stop pulling out hit after hit - much to the crowd's delight.

Guitarist Nancy Wilson, jumped, kicked and worked the stage with a sexy swagger like it was 1973. The crowd fed off her energy as they clapped and danced to every song along the way.

It was impossible not to dance at Bob Schneider's crowd-pleasing, non-stop, jamming show at the Aardvark Friday night.A fixture in the Austin music scene, Schneider returned to Fort Worth as part of a tour showcasing his newest album "The Californian," the most rock-n-roll version of Schneider to date.

His music can best be described as a combination of alternative, folk, country, funk and beat-bop with self-confessional lyrics that display emotions ranging from love to heartbreak, to sex and partying and to loneliness and substance abuse.

Hubba Hubba! Flex those muscles and raise those water bottles high because, according to Men's Fitness magazine, TCU is currently rated the eighth fittest campus in the nation.Good? Sure. But could we do better? Definitely.

According to the report, TCU received an A- for sleep and exercise, an A+ for gym hours, and a B for overall culture of fitness.

Our downfall? Unhealthy habits. We received a C- in consumption of tobacco, alcohol and fast food. However, when one applies a little common sense, it's a relatively easy problem to fix.

Team to design ad campaign for Coke

TCU's Campaigns Team, which now has Coca-Cola Classic using its new Web site to recruit students and sell atypical TCU shirts to raise funds for competition, the Campaigns Team adviser said.Since the first campaign in 1999, TCU's Campaigns Team, a student-run advertising agency, has been responsible for constructing marketing plans for national clients, said Mike Wood, the adviser and an advertising/public relations instructor.

He said this year presents the biggest client yet, Coca-Cola.

Weekend sweeps make Frogs No. 5 in Mountain West pack

The volleyball team finished the first half of its conference season with an even-conference record that has the Frogs in the middle of the Mountain West Conference pack.The Frogs swept both their weekend matches against New Mexico, a conference opponent, and UT-Pan American, in their last nonconference home game.

The team's winning weekend started with a Friday night match against the New Mexico Lobos, winning all three games 30-23, 30-21 and 30-27.

Tennis: Grad student displays skill in tournament

One graduate student represented the men's tennis team at this weekend's tournament.Graduate student Chris Biro played Friday in Midland at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational where he reached the 16th round.

Biro defeated Omar Altmann of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-1 to advance to round 16 where he lost to Matt Brown of Baylor who is ranked No. 82 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Frogs have only two more tournaments left in the 2006 all-tournament portion of their schedule before Winter Break.
