‘Guitar Hero’ will not be soon forgotten

Published Feb 17, 2011

"Guitar Hero" will be no more, according to an announcement by Activision Blizzard on Feb. 9. It came following Viacom's decision to sell its own unit that created the "Rock Band" video games.

The game, created by RedOctane in collaboration with Harmonix Music Systems, Inc. studio, made its world debut in 2005.

It quickly gained popularity, and it's not hard to guess why. Ordinary people could feel like they were masters of guitar. Those of us who are tone deaf could actually play music that sounded like music.

The No. 1 ranked TCU baseball team officially opens its 2011 campaign this weekend with a home series against Kansas.

A lot of hype surrounds the start to this season for the Frogs, ranked high in the polls and with expectations for a return to Omaha for a second consecutive College World Series appearance.

Head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle said there is a lot of excitement from last year's run, but also some disappointment from not being able to win it all. The players and coaches don't pay attention to the rankings but rather focus on preparing for each game.

Issues with Enright?s column

Published Feb 17, 2011

I'm a student here at TCU and read the Skiff on an almost daily basis. Wednesday morning I was surprised, however, as I read through Jack Enright's article "Science behind evolution should be priority." I am a Christian, and while I see some valid points made by Enright, I also had some serious issues with his argument.

To say that teaching creationism is unconstitutional is accurate enough, even though that law is a whole separate issue of itself. Regardless, that was a reasonable excuse for promoting creationism as the only option for high schools.

Domain name system issue causes e-mail outage

Published Feb 16, 2011

An issue with TCU's domain name system Tuesday night caused the second outage this month for the university's e-mail server, a Technology Resources administrator wrote in an e-mail.

Bryan Lucas, executive director of Technology Resources, wrote that the DNS issue arose because of the flooding of the university's server room in Sid W. Richardson Building on Feb. 4, which caused the initial outage in e-mail and wireless internet.

The e-mail servers were down from approximately 8:30 p.m. until 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, he wrote.

Prayer a part of the playbook

Published Feb 16, 2011

When a football player points his finger to the sky after running into the end zone or quickly kneels down to give a quick "thank you," there might be more to these faithful gestures than most fans think.

Faith and football can absolutely go hand in hand, and TCU football is no different, said the Rev. Chauncey Franks, who serves as the TCU football team's life and character coach.

Franks, a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chaplain, said faith is a great thing to have on and off the field to motivate and bring a sense of unity to the team.
