As you make your way into the lobby, with the click and clack of your
best pair of shoes, you feel yourself become the target of eyes8212;so
many eyes8212;eyes like coal-lit furnaces beaming negative thoughts
your way. Undeterred, you direct your attention to the front desk.

"I'm here for the networking fair," you say smiling at the receptionist.
"And clearly you're going to do well," she whips back sarcastically,
nodding toward the enormous banner that should have indicated
to you where to go.

Most who enter the small, dimly-lit
building on a shabby block near the outskirts
of downtown do so with a tinge of
anxiety, though it is often disguised by
confidence.

who earn a living by prickling ink into the

It's spring time in Texas and summer is quickly

hit up ICE at the Parks at Arlington, an Olympicsize
skating rink.

Kimmy Daycock fought cancer while
in diapers.
At two years old, Daycock, a sophomore
news-editorial journalism major,
was diagnosed with clear cell sarcoma,
a rare form of childhood cancer.
Emergency surgery removed the cancer
and her right kidney, and left the toddler
with a scar that stretched across
her torso from hip to hip. Ten days
of radiation and five years of chemotherapy
followed.
At five, Daycock's cancer was in
remission. But that didn't stop the
problems.

This place may come off a little gothic and
mysterious as you walk down a long, black set
of stairs into a large, dark room with a bar in
the front and pool tables hidden in the back. A
bouncer leads guests down a dark hall through
a dark door into an even darker room. This room
is packed with people with a small lit-up stage
in front. This is the comedy club showroom. It's
a little mysterious, but unique. I loved it.

A November 2007 study released
by University of California Los
Angeles's Williams Institute found
that the number of same-sex couples
in Fort Worth increased more than 10
times since 1990. This trend is reflected
across the nation with the number of
"unmarried partners" increasing by five
times over the 16 year period, according
