Letter to the editor: Presentation pigeonholed workplace gender differences

Published Feb 12, 2008

The Rev. Genny Hurst and Deanna Langle's titles were corrected Feb. 12 at 10:05 p.m.

The article that ran Feb. 6 reporting on the GenderSpeak workshop provided an accurate description of Tammy Hughes' presentation; therefore, the article is not what we take issue with but rather the presentation itself.

Hughes began her presentation with declaring that her comments were supported by "research," and then went on to only refer to research that supported her thesis that men and women are simply "hard-wired" for certain behaviors.

Music industry selling out by overpricing concert tickets

Published Feb 12, 2008

The day the music died has come and gone.

It was Saturday night when I decided to log onto my computer and purchase tickets to a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert only to discover that ticket prices started at $96. I quickly logged off the Internet, quietly cursing the wind under my breath. There was no way I could justify spending so much on a concert while I still had school books to pay for.

Democratic president would lower pill prices

Imagine entering your favorite restaurant only to find that the prices of everything on the menu had doubled. Or tripled.

Instead of paying a $15 bill, you're now shelling out $30 or $40.

Are you going to keep eating there, paying the new ludicrous prices?

That's the problem many women are currently facing on college campuses.

Paying $50 a month.

Six hundred dollars a year.

Quick investigation of end zone collapse commendable

Published Feb 12, 2008

It is known that half of the new facade of the south end zone fell into a pile of dust and twisted metal early Friday morning.

Although the surveillance tapes are not being released to the public, the commendable action of the administration and construction companies is the swift response taken toward investigating this incident.

Luckily, the structural collapse did not happen while crews were on the work site and moreover, it did not happen during a football game when the stands would most likely be full of fans.

Tornado brings appreciation of safety

It was about an hour wait. They were sitting in a room with no windows waiting for it to be over.

A tornado warning was in effect. After being cramped in a room waiting anxiously, the rumbling occurred.

Things seem so important. New items hit the market everyday, the new 32 gigabyte touch iPod, the new Hobo purse or that new dress from Nordstrom. But it isn't until everything is gone that you learn to appreciate things.
