If there was a potentially suicidal student that could endanger other students, like in a situation that prompted a lockdown at a Dallas community college campus Monday, the university would respond by using the TCU ALERT, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Don Mills said.

According to a Dallas Morning News online article, Brookhaven College had a brief lockdown on campus Monday after several people reported a student intended to kill himself. Students were alerted of the lockdown through e-mail, text messages and Twitter messages.

Lady Frogs fall to San Diego State 1-0

Published Oct 4, 2010

The TCU soccer team opened Mountain West Conference play Friday night with a 1-0 double overtime loss to San Diego State University, but the team rebounded Sunday to finish its non-conference schedule with a 5-2 win over Houston Baptist University.

TCU traveled to SDSU to open its conference schedule. The Horned Frogs kept the ball on the Aztecs' end for most of the game but were unable to net any goals. They had multiple good looks, including a wide open shot attempt by sophomore forward Kim Castleberry in the waning minutes of the game that hit the crossbar.

Lady Antebellum's performance Saturday night drew the largest crowd to date at the university's fall concert, Student Government Association officials said.

Student activities coordinator Brad Thompson said as of Monday, attendance was estimated to be around 6,000, but that a more accurate count would be available later in the week.

Usual attendance for the university's fall concert was around 3,500, but the large crowd was expected because of the high profile group, he said.

Across Fort Collins signs read, "Defend the Fort," and the No. 5 ranked Frogs did just that by defending the Fort Worth name in Fort Collins by defeating CSU 27-0 in the Frogs first conference game of the season.

The win was the first road shutout under head football coach Gary Patterson in his ten seasons as head coach. The last road shutout was a 24-0 win in 2000 against Navy when Patterson was the Frogs defensive coordinator.

The heated commentary of two women from the Fort Worth community at the "Who's Afraid of Muslims?" public forum Thursday helped to humanize Muslims for students in attendance, a university professor said.

The two female audience members stood up during the discussion period and raised questions about Islamic law in the U.S. One woman, who said she was a TCU alumna, held a stack of papers in the air and said she could cite a modern Muslim scholar who taught that Islamic law was not compatible with democracy.

Utah will be the toughest opponent TCU faces this season

Published Sep 30, 2010

This season, head football coach Gary Patterson put a pyramid on the wall in the team room before fall camp the same way he did last season. Even though the Frogs reached the Fiesta Bowl last season, the first postseason goal on the pyramid is to win the Mountain West Conference.

TCU won the conference last season with an unblemished 8-0 record in conference play. The closest the Frogs came to a loss was a 20-17 win at Air Force played in single-digit temperatures. Other than that, no conference team came within 27 points of upsetting TCU.

TCU will dominate Colorado State

Published Sep 30, 2010

With an undefeated season and many accolades under its belt, TCU is going to dominate the first conference game against Colorado State at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins, Colo.

Last week, senior quarterback Andy Dalton threw two interceptions against SMU, which gave the Mustangs a 17-14 lead early in the third quarter. Coming off a game that shouldn't have been that close, Dalton should redeem himself in Colorado. After an injury sidelined him for his first appearance at Fort Collins in 2008, Dalton will have his first career start at Hughes Stadium.

Changing gun laws will be ineffective

A gunman fired several shots on the University of Texas at Austin campus Monday before killing himself on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castañeda library. Fortunately, no one else was harmed in the incident, however, it does highlight a major issue affecting college campuses around the country: the right to bear arms on campus. Most campuses do not allow civilians to carry guns and I believe this incident is another reminder of what a mistake that is.
