In their next two matches, the men's club lacrosse team wants to power past the University of Nebraska and the University of North Texas and hold onto its No. 2 ranking in the Lone Star Alliance's North Division.

Coming off of a loss to Texas State 15-7, TCU will meet both Nebraska and UNT in competition during the weekend.

Junior Shea Pearson said the team is looking forward to playing Nebraska.

"A lot of the guys are excited to play a team out of state that's from a different conference," Pearson said.

The upcoming weekend is a busy one for the men's and women's tennis teams. The men's team will host the No. 24 Tulsa Golden Hurricane today, and the women will face the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday and the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois on Sunday.

The men's team boasts a 4-2 record in match play this season. Because of the recent stretch of bad weather, the Horned Frogs haven't played a match in almost two weeks.

Head coach Dave Borelli said Tulsa is probably a better team than its No. 24 ranking indicates.

The men's basketball team is ready to wrap up the 2009-2010 season with conference action against the No. 14 Brigham Young University Cougars for Senior Night.

In early February, TCU fell to BYU 76-56 on the road in Provo, Utah. The Cougars capitalized on the struggles of the Horned Frogs early in the game. They pulled out a large lead by scoring the first 10 points, holding a double-digit lead for most of the game and stopped the few runs TCU made.

Some say that any publicity is good publicity. Administrators at Texas A&M University-Commerce may not agree after the university, which doesn't usually appear in headlines, stepped into the national spotlight this week after several publications and blogs, including The Associated Press and ESPN, disseminated comments by its football coach praising players for reportedly stealing hundreds of copies of the school newspaper. The lead story in the newspaper was a report about members of the football team facing drug charges.

BYU (28-4, 13-3) won a lopsided contest against the Horned Frogs (13-18, 5-11) Saturday night 107-77.

The Cougars withstood an 18-4 run early in the game by the Frogs to pull out their single season record twenty-eighth win.

TCU head coach Jim Christian said the first five minutes was complete execution by the Frogs.

"We were playing the right way. We guarded the basketball right. Moved the ball. Rebounding the ball and then that was it we should have left," said Christian.

Things fell apart for the Frogs from that point.

March is often equated with midterms and Spring Break, but those looking for some healthy competition should look to the University Recreation Center for a full schedule of intramural sports this month.

There are no team tournaments scheduled for March, but plenty of events for competitive individuals.

The individual events kick off Friday with a free No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker tournament at 5 p.m. in the Special Events Gym. The players ranked in the top-six will receive prizes.

I am a huge fan of the TCU Showgirls. In fact, two seasons ago, I too, was one of the scantily clad dancers shaking my pompoms at every home baseball game. Consequently, I remember how awkward it felt to climb onto the dugout, "perform" (if you can even call it that given the limited surface space) for a mostly apathetic crowd and then hop back down again.

A former Horned Frog is back and on a mission, he said, to finish the education he started more than 30 years ago and show disadvantaged children the importance of seeing things through to the end.

Gary Randle played basketball at the university from 1975 to 1977. In the final game of his sophomore season, Randle had a fight with his coach that changed everything.

"His frustration was leveled at me," Randle said. "So when he cursed me out; I cursed him out."

Days after the fight, Randle left the university and basketball.

The School of Art will not hire a new director this year after negotiations failed with the selected candidate, a university administrator said.

Scott Sullivan, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said the candidate wanted to be granted tenure upon being hired, but university policy prohibits this practice.

Ronald Watson, the school's current director, originally planned to step down at the end of the spring semester to return to full-time teaching but will now hold the position for another year.

Ashley Aikman is continuing to propel No. 8 TCU toward another Varsity Equestrian National Championship as the Lady Frogs head into the VENC brackets April 15.

Aikman, a junior from Mission, secured the Horned Frog victory over defending national champion Texas A&M on Feb. 5 in front of 1,623 spectators inside the John Justin Arena. She beat Randi Standley in Horsemanship, 71.25-70.

Sophomore Courtney Chown continued to rally the Frogs in the event, defeating Katie Lisabeth, 72.75-72.5.
