It was an afternoon of home runs and big cheers for the Frogs as the team went 3-0 in their opening series against Sam Houston State.

This weekend's crowd was the largest three-game series in Lupton Stadium, with 8,803 fans in the stands over the course of the weekend.

They certainly were not disappointed.

Kyle Winkler pitched his first game of the season, and said he felt good about it.

"I feel comfortable on the mat, I feel like I'm throwing pretty well," he said.

The men's club lacrosse team has been preparing for its weekend tilt with conference rival Texas Tech with one thing on its mind: revenge.

With a final score of 11-9, Tech defeated the LAX Frogs last year, knocking them out of the running for the playoffs. The LAX Frogs are now looking to defeat their conference opponent, which would bring them one game closer to a spot in the playoffs for the first time in program history.

Police in Breckenridge, Colo., concluded that no crime was committed during a Jan. 8 branding incident involving Kappa Sigma member Amon "Chance" Carter IV, according to a press release issued Thursday.

Police investigators and Summit County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert reviewed written statements from Carter and other university students along with photographs and video clips of the incident, according to the press release. An opening night record-breaking 3,228 fans filled the Lupton Stadium Friday night to cheer the No. 11 Frogs on to a win over Sam Houston State.

The Frogs finished the game 4-0, but junior pitcher Trent Appleby said the team isn't getting too excited yet.

"It's nice to get the first win, but we still have two more games, they're a good team and we gotta finish the series out," he said.

After falling to No. 6 Baylor on the road at the beginning of the month, the No. 40 Horned Frogs (3-1) are looking ahead to their home opener against the No. 41 Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-1).

It has been more than two weeks since the team last competed, and although time has passed since the Horned Frogs last contended with an opponent, the team is optimistic.

"We are feeling pretty good and positive," junior Christopher Price said. "We've practiced really hard and have had some good wins."

Normally I am not one to have a problem with controversial television shows, especially a show like "Family Guy" that I watch regularly. I believe censoring these shows would take away a lot of the humor that makes them so popular. However, after Sunday night's episode, which featured one of the main characters, Chris, dating a girl with Down syndrome, I think there is a line that should not be crossed in mainstream entertainment when it comes to people with special needs.

Violence is not the only answer to frustrations with bureaucracy. Peaceful protesters like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. managed to get their messages across without flying a plane into a building. Many citizens in the country are coping with financial hardship and bare mistrust toward a system that is lacking in transparency and accountability, but there are other outlets for anger. Although Austin plane crasher Joseph Andrew Stack may have felt he had no other option, there is an alternative to threatening or taking the lives of others.

Hollywood, since its inception, has captivated the hearts and imaginations of millions.

Almost everyone at some point has fantasized about his or her shining moment. Whether you're partial to Tom Hanks, Vin Diesel or Nicole Kidman, somewhere deep inside is a fantasy about being a star. As Hollywood has certainly taught us, we know that anything's possible in the land of movie magic.

Consequently, Hollywood moguls have to have some way of separating the haves from the have-nots.

It's time for baseball season again, and the Frogs are ready to go for their first series of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Kyle Winkler said the pitchers have been pitching every day in preparation for their 2010 season.

"We expect to go to the College World Series every year and win it," Winkler said. "My expectation is to be the best I can be and do my best for the team."

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said the team wants to be prepared for every game situation they can think of.

The U.S. stretched its medals lead to six today, moving the medals count to 17.

Alpine skier Julia Mancuso won her second silver of the 2010 Winter Games, this time in the ladies' super combined.

The women also brought home a silver and bronze in the snowboard halfpipe finals.

The men's and women's curling teams both lost to Denmark. Neither team has one a round robin session at these Winter Games.
