Published Feb 12, 2010

An advertisement touting a gay dating Web site was rejected from the Super Bowl commercial line up, according to CNN.com. The ad, which features two men watching the game, begins with both men reaching for the chip bowl at the same time and ends with the two guys kissing passionately. It made me giggle out loud when I watched it, and it didn't seem any worse than the usual bevy of ads featuring bikini-wearing girls, sexual entendres or scantily clad members of both sexes. So why was it pulled?

There's nothing wrong with being gay in the military. As long as no one finds out about it.

From the beginning of his campaign, President Barack Obama said he wanted to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that prevents openly gay men and women from serving in the U.S. military. During his first year in office, Obama did not to try to overturn the policy, but he renewed his call to repeal it during his Jan. 27 State of the Union address.

Refusal of federal money for education affects Texas schoolchildren

Gov. Rick Perry's decision not to compete for up to $700 million in federal money for education may be a move that will make Texas schoolchildren suffer, a university professor said.

James Riddlesperger, a political science professor, said Perry's decision will only put funding for Texas education further behind.

"That money will be spent," Riddlesperger said. "It's already been appropriated. It's going to be spent somewhere, and what that means in terms of Texas is it puts Texas even farther behind in the competition than they would be."
