Frogs will get tune-up needed for Clemson

There is no doubt that the Horned Frogs will come up victorious Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats. The real game will be the Frogs challenging themselves to beat the Bobcats by a larger margin than they beat Stephen F. Austin, a fellow Southland Conference member, last year.

While the TCU matchup is the Bobcats' big game of the season, TCU head coach Gary Patterson emphasizes the one game at a time mentality to his team to the point that he almost never discusses future opponents to the media.

Each week members, of student publications make their picks on the big college football games. Each correct pick is awarded one point, and a correct upset pick is worth two points. Last week, News Now reporter Maddy Foxx went undefeated and leads the pack with nine points, followed by Skiff editor-in-chief David Hall with eight. Skiff reporter Mary Sue Greenleaf and sports editor Travis L. Brown are tied with seven, and bringing up the end are News Now executive web producer Phil Mann with six and Skiff news editor Michael Carroll with five.

A lot of people on this planet do a lot of weird things. This was even further confirmed to me when I met a vegetarian. While vegetarians believe what they believe, it makes no sense to me to avoid eating meat at all. That's why I'm listing some popular reasons people become vegetarians and why I don't buy them.

1. Every time you eat a dead animal, you are directly responsible for its death.

To many people, vegetarianism is just a fad and has no real benefits. When most think of a vegetarian they see a hippie or a left-wing animal activist when in fact anybody could be and should be without meat in their diet.

While I personally am not a vegetarian anymore, I did give it a try when I was in high school for about a year and a half, and I loved every second of it. Turning back from it was a decision to get rid of the label that accompanied my lifestyle.

The amount of rainfall in the area over the past week will not greatly affect Saturday's football game against Texas State, an athletics official said.

Mark Cohen, director of athletic media relations, said the field will be ready for the game. The crew that takes care of the field has had no problem painting and working on the field, he said.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be partly sunny with a high of 84 degrees.

The women's soccer team will play Weber State University in Lubbock on Friday with fresh legs, head coach Dan Abdalla said.

Juniors Nikki Wilbur and Cheryl Martin sat out the weekend's games in Colorado due to injuries, but now, Abdalla said, the players should add diligent spirit to the game.

"They're both significant contributors to our blue-collar mentality," Abdalla said. "They do the dirty work to allow other players to have a little more freedom."
