Excitement and light-hearted determination reside with the TCU women's soccer team as they prepare for a widely-publicized match against the Mexican women's national team Tuesday night.

The Horned Frogs finished last season with a record of 14-4-2, the best in TCU soccer history, but the Mexican national team has its own impressive resume and a roster padded with veteran players. Maribel Dominguez and Marlene Sandoval are two players to watch on the opposing team, TCU head coach Dan Abdalla said.

Sherley Hall reopens with eco-friendly certification

Sherley Hall, which reopened this fall as a coed residence hall after undergoing a $16 million renovation, has earned the second-highest level of certification from the the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for the project's eco-friendly design and construction.

Women’s soccer upsets No. 15 UT

The Horned Frogs women's soccer team was victorious in Austin Friday night by the score of 2-1, dethroning the No. 15 ranked team in the nation.

Sophomore Jordan Calhoun netted the game winning goal in the 85th minute . Junior Jackie Torda played a through ball between two Longhorn defenders, setting up Calhoun for the finish past Longhorn keeper Alexa Gaul.



Calhoun also netted the first goal of the game in the fifth minute of the match from 15 feet out off an assist by Sophomore Kaylie Garcia.

Frogs fall to perfect Longhorn execution in first ever Super Regional game

Longhorn offensive perfection took down the Horned Frogs in their first Super Regional game by a score of 10-4. Saturday's game one offered perfect displays of each team's offensive make up as TCU hit three home runs and Texas set a new NCAA record for bunts in a game with 7. The Longhorns perfect execution out matched the long ball and drove Texas to the game one win.

"We picked up runs off the little ball that we play and we also matched the long ball they play so that gave us a little edge tonight," University of Texas head coach Augie Garrido said.

University to host NCAA baseball regional

Despite an early exit from the conference tournament, the university has been chosen as a host site for the 2009 NCAA Division 1 Baseball Tournament, according to NCAA.com. This is TCU's first time to host an NCAA baseball regional. Being named as a host site grants the Horned Frogs a spot in the field of 64, which will be released Monday at 11:30 a.m.

The university is one of three Texas schools to host a tournament this year, the others being Rice University and the University of Texas. The University of Oklahoma also received the nod for a site.

Any Horned Frog baseball fan who has taken in a ballgame in the past few years has always found Matt Carpenter roaming the infield. Carpenter has become very accustomed to that boomerang-shaped pile of brown dirt, playing on it for the past five years. Friday, he will finish his TCU career seeing baseball at Lupton Stadium in a brand new way.

For the first time in its long history, the TCU baseball team will host a regional in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Joining the top seeded Horned Frogs are Texas A&M, Oregon State University and Wright State in order of seeding.

Horned Frogs following similar path with win over BYU

TCU kept its hopes alive in the Mountain West Conference Baseball Championships as it rode freshman hurler Kyle Winkler to a 9-2 win over BYU in an elimination game Thursday at Lupton Stadium.

Winkler stifled the Cougars' bats, allowing two runs over nine innings and striking out six. He improved to 6-0 on the season and equaled his longest outing of the year. Adam Miller (3-3) took the loss for the Cougars, allowing two runs over five innings of work.
