A Faculty Senate motion to modify the course retake policy will be considered by the University Council next semester.

The motion states that for each time a student retakes a course, each final grade from that course will be averaged and calculated into the student's GPA,

Seniors valuable to program

Published Nov 25, 2008

Let me be one of the many people to congratulate this year's senior class of football players.

All 22 of you helped make this program a powerhouse and is now a team that has become synonymous with success.

Recording a 40-10 record over the last four years is something not many schools can say, and three 10-win seasons is another great accomplishment.

For all of you who are gifted enough to contribute on the field, Frog fans have been treated to some of the best football in the country over the last four seasons.

Anthropology program to move, offer new learning opportunities

Published Nov 21, 2008

The anthropology department's move to Scharbauer Hall next academic year is one of several changes to the department, which is looking to expand after a year of setbacks, professors in the department said.

Miguel Leatham, lecturer and department director, said the department hired professor Dave Aftandilian from the University of Chicago in August, expanding a faculty team that was depleted in 2006 when three anthropology professors left in the span of a year.

Now with a full team of professors, the anthropology program is looking to expand, Leatham said.

Next year, Fall Break will change from Thursday and Friday to Monday and Tuesday after a decision by the University Council, a university official said.

TCU Registrar Patrick Miller said the decision was approved overwhelmingly by about 70 percent of the council, which is made up of several faculty, administrators and two Student Government Association officers. The change was prompted by a request from the engineering department.

Published Nov 21, 2008

Prior to kickoff, the seniors of the Horned Frog football team were greeted with a hug from head coach Gary Patterson before being honored with friends and family for their tenure with the team.

The Falcons of the Air Force Academy weren't greeted nearly as warmly when the Frogs took the opening kickoff and scored 2:22 seconds later on a three-yard run by full back Luke Shivers.

"It seemed like everything was working on that first drive," sophomore quarterback Andy Dalton said. "It set the tone and we just went off from there."

Fantasy Football: Good picks for tough games

A friend of mine asked me who I thought the best cornerback in the NFL was Sunday night during the Cowboys game. I turned to him and said, "When he's healthy, it has to be Terence Newman. His interceptions are low, but that is only because offenses don't bother looking to his side of the field."

On the play following my response, Newman promptly got burned on a 15-yard crossing route.

Nonprofits feeling economic pressure, remain hopeful

Published Nov 21, 2008

As the wintry chills set in, the multicolored lights brighten the city and the red kettles make their annual appearance on the sidewalks, pangs of poverty dig a little deeper in some homes. There is no question why the holidays are a time for giving. But this year, the economic crisis has caused some giving hands to hesitate, dwelling on the bank accounts and wallets that are a little bit tighter - a little bit emptier.
