The athletic administration is in the process of retiring two numbers next year in TCU football, an athletics offical said.

The identities of a defensive end and a running back are being kept under wraps in order to surprise the honorees, said Jack Hesselbrock, associate athletics director for internal operations.

"We'll probably retire one at the beginning of the football season and one at the end," Hesselbrock said.

John McCain brought a classless campaign to a dignified close last Tuesday night, though his supporters remained obstinately disrespectful. While the media will now undoubtably be scrambling for stories to fill the void the end of the two-year campaign has brought, I would like to offer my own epitaph to the most exciting political campaign in recent history.

McCain lost for three main reasons. He was off-message, he was negative and he made poor decisions.

What do coaches Ron Prince, Joe Tiller, Phil Fulmer, Tyrone Willingham and President George W. Bush have in common?

All of them are currently working, but none will have a job come January.

Bush at least knew this was going to happen four years ago, but for the four coaches, they had no idea until recently.

And worse, the coaches are still expected to work despite already getting the axe from their respective schools.

With the renovation of Sherley Hall underway and plans set for remodeling the interior of Colby Hall, incoming residents will be left without an option for single-sex housing.

Craig Allen, director of Residential Services, said the dorm will open coed next fall to make room for male students who will be displaced by the closing of Milton Daniel Hall for renovation. After the two dorms reopen, a decision will be made whether to keep the dorms coed or make a return to single-sex status.

Technology Resources is helping the university go green by working to make double-sided printing the default setting in the Mary Couts Burnett Library's information commons.

Bryan Lucas, executive director of Technology Resources, said the idea of double-sided printing was initiated by students at the beginning of the semester.

Each semester, students are given 200 free pages for printing in the Pharos system in the computer lab, and charges will apply after the first 200 pages.

The university's graduation rates for its athletes in all but one sport lag behind the national averages, but university officials said they hope new academic facilities and programs for athletes will help them improve.

Chris Uchacz, director of athletic academic services, said TCU's overall graduation success rate or GSR, is 68 percent. The NCAA's national average is 78 percent.

I disagree with Barack Obama on several ideological issues, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The next four, or eight, years are a blank slate for now, and any idea of what an Obama presidency will look like is a conjecture at best.

I was heartened by John McCain's concession speech urging support for Obama. He was a very gracious loser, and it made me feel proud for supporting him with my vote.

After 50 years on campus, Sherley Hall is undergoing a $16 million renovation project and will reopen as a coed dorm in fall 2009 to allow more room for incoming male students, a Residential Services official said.

Craig Allen, director of Residential Services, said Sherley will be converted into a coed dorm because Milton Daniel Hall will be closed for renovation, and the university needs living space for incoming male students. After renovations of Milton Daniel are complete, the university will make a decision on whether Sherley will remain a coed dorm, Allen said.
