Image magazine and DailySkiff.com have been recognized as best publications by both the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) and the Society of Professional Journalists region that includes colleges in Texas and Oklahoma. As first-place regional SPJ winners, the magazine and Web site are up for national honors against the other regional winners, and the national winners will be announced in mid-May.

Tattoos can be beautiful way to permanently express faith

Christian body art is becoming more common as people are representing their faith through permanent ink. I think it's beautiful, but I'm a bit biased.


Tattoos have been around forever. Dating back to thousands of years before Christ, people preserved bodies being discovered with body art. People would mark their bodies in celebration of God, making their bodies a walking testimony for their faith. Is it wrong to be a witness and testimony of faith in God?

Increasing diversity good for admissions

New Union has SGA dipping into savings for $100k

The Student Government Association is calling for extra money to be removed from its savings for the first time in at least three or four years, the organization's treasurer said.


SGA Treasurer Jacob Barnes said the extra $100,000 called for in the 2008-2009 budget comes from a savings account in which SGA puts leftover funds every year.


Barnes said the account contains more than $200,000. The $100,000 is listed under residual spending in the budget.

Joe Brown contracted HIV from his partner, who was the first-known person to die of AIDS in Tarrant County. Brown said he was unaware at the time that his partner had been unfaithful.


Brown, a professor of theater at Texas Wesleyan University, has talked with many of his students about living with HIV for the last 24 years.


Brown said awareness of the disease is crucial to college-age people.

About 10,000 people in the university's own county are living with HIV, and half of the newly infected are 15- to 24-year-olds, said Bob Ray Sanders, who will moderate a discussion on the issue today.

A panel of experts in the issue of HIV/AIDS in Tarrant County are coming to speak today about the realities of the deadly disease in the local context.



This is a good chance for college-age students who seem to be one of the targets of this disease to realize AIDS is not as far away of an issue as many may think.
