The No. 22 TCU women's tennis team shut out Mountain West Conference opponent Air Force 7-0 Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

This victory brought the Horned Frogs one step closer to dominating the same three-day series they swept last season without losing a match, having also already blanking the Colorado State Rams. Sundays' match against the Wyoming Cowboys is the Horned Frogs all that stands in their way of two consecutive years of sweeping the three-day, three-team series.

Weekend matches team’s first three in conference season

The women's tennis team is hoping history will repeat itself today with the beginning of conference play.


The Horned Frogs are beginning the same three-day series they swept last season, defeating conference rivals Colorado State, Air Force and Wyoming without losing a single match.


The No. 22 Horned Frogs finished 8-2 in the Mountain West last season.

The No. 22 TCU women's tennis team defeated Wyoming Sunday at the Bartzen Varsity Courts for its sixth consecutive win, completing a three-game conference opening weekend sweep.

The women's team climbed 13-4 overall and in the Mountain West, while Wyoming dropped to 10-7 and 0-2 in conference.



"This was a good weekend for the girls and the matches were sustained with concentration and energy," said Jefferson Hammond, head coach to the TCU women's tennis team. "I'm proud of my girls."

It started with a dress.


In what had been one of the hottest summers Italians had experienced in a while, this cooler night was welcomed by Nicholas Lindsey. As he walked outside, in the heart of Perugia, Lindsey heard the familiar sound of Gnarls Barkley's song "Crazy," one of his favorites. The music led him to an open-air fashion show and it was there that he saw it.


"It was love at first sight," Lindsey said.

The women's basketball team will play the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. for the fourth round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

The quarterfinal game is Sunday at 3 p.m.



TCU advanced to the fourth round Wednesday after defeating Texas Tech, 81-74.



Colorado is 17-14 this season and finished 5-11 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes are 16-4 all-time at home in postseason play (12-3 NCAA, 2-1 WNIT, 2-0 AIAW) and have won their last five home games.



Only eight team's remain in the WNIT.

Western team seeded No. 1 in Varsity National Championships

During its second year of competition, the women's Western team has been named the No. 1 seed for the 2008 Varsity Equestrian National Championships in Waco, April 17 to 19.


The team has the best record in the nation with a perfect 11-0 season.


The Hunt Seat team went 5-7, earning the first alternate position for the tournament.

Ranch program adds two new scholarships

The Ranch Management program announced two new endowed scholarships at the Annual Scholarship Dinner and will be giving five more scholarships in the 2008-2009 school year, said the Clark Society liaison and event planner for University Advancement.


The program now has 34 scholarships from living donors valued at $203,510. The program also has two scholarships from donors who are no longer living, valued at $11,000.

New basketball coach plans to bring blue-collar mentality to squad

The new men's basketball coach will bring a workman-like style of play from Kent State University to Fort Worth, he said Saturday at his introductory press conference.

Owning the Mid-American Conference's highest winning percentage, head coach Jim Christian was introduced to media, players and alumni Saturday at the John Justin Athletic Center.



"This program's going to be blue collar, we're going to work and we're going to start as soon as we can," Christian said. "I'm ready to get to work here."
