Elise Shropshire won this year’s TCU’s Got Talent contest with a rendition of Adele’s “I Found A Boy,” on Friday.

Shropshire said she picked an Adele song because her voice range was similar to hers and the song was comfortable to sing for her.

She performs for TCUnderground, an organization that is dedicated to integrating art and expression into the community through music and poetic performances.

She was disappointed last year when she learned about the contest after the cut off date to enter as a contestant.

“I wanted to perform [last year], and now I got to perform, and then I won so it’s cool!” said Shropshire, a sophomore strategic communication and Spanish & Hispanic Studies double major from Nebraska.

Two of her roommates were in attendance and they laughingly claimed the victory as their own.

“This is ours now,” said Kamry Henson. The other, Erin Hill, said “We won. We were great. There is no ‘I’ in ‘Team’, there is ‘Team’ in ‘Team’.”

She was one of five contestants performing before a student audience in the Brown-Lupton University Union auditorium.

Jesse Elgene sung and played guitar to a song that he wrote himself; Tamera Hyatte performed a trio of self-written poems; Megan Jones sang the Elvis Presley classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love”; and License to Trill, an A cappella group, performed an original composition.

The talent show was sponsored by theEnd and TCUnderground, and there were three judges: Kat Klein, Prabhesh Patel and “your favorite neighborhood web slinger,” Spider-Man.

“It really is a special event for us because it brings everyone together and is a big celebration of their individual talents,” Kyler Tesch, director of theEnd said.
