Town hall meeting will cover parking and seating

The renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium is set to begin in a little more than a month, but the plans will not be finalized until after the town hall meetings that will address any final concerns on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The meetings, arranged by the TCU Athletics Department, will be held in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom and are open to the public. The meetings will address concerns over parking and seating in the soon-to-be upgraded stadium.

A book signing with the founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will kick off a series of events under the university's own Frogs for the Cure initiative, chairwoman Ann Louden said.

Frogs for the Cure is a series of annual university events designed to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and breast cancer awareness, Louden said. Other activities for the week include a Yoplait yogurt eating contest and Pink Out Bingo, both scheduled for Oct. 14.

Fiesta de Los Frogs targets prospective minority students

The Fiesta de Los Frogs event aims to bring more minority students to the university with an admissions information session, concert, tailgate and luncheon, all before the football game Saturday, an admissions counselor said.

Houston-based admissions counselor Victoria Herrera, said that the event specifically targets prospective minority students, though other students can attend. Herrera has been involved with the annual Fiesta de Los Frogs event since its inception in 2001.

Running a red light may now result in a $75 fine in the mail

Caitlin Cecil, a recent graduate, hurried to make it through a yellow light on her way down South Hulen Street.

She was not pulled over and she did not have to explain herself to an officer for her speeding through the intersection, but several weeks later she received her punishment in the mail 8212; a citation for $75 and a photo of her car speeding through the intersection under a red light.

The red light camera, located at the intersection of South Hulen Street and Southwest Loop 820, is one of many issuing citations citywide.

Every week, Chancellor Victor Boschini and several student leaders pick who will win top upcoming college football games in the Daily Skiff college football pick'em challenge. Last week TCU News Now sports director Chris Blake and TCU head twirler Skyler Mathis went 5-0 after predicting the winners from all five matchups correctly. Blake currently has the lead with the highest cumulative score at 21-4.

TCU should have little trouble against Wyoming

Wyoming won their second game of the season against Toledo 20-15 last weekend. The Cowboys will face a much tougher test against the No. 5 Horned Frogs. TCU remains ranked fifth for a second week and is competing with Boise State in the rankings. Boise State was passed by Oregon in this week's polls. Wyoming offers a direct comparison between TCU and Boise State since the Broncos throttled Wyoming 51-6 September 18. TCU must use this game to gear up for tougher games on this schedule such as Air Force and Utah.

HyperFrogs, a campus organization that promotes sportsmanship and fan support, focuses on major varsity sports. However, in order to broaden its impact, the organization is offering a special incentive to get fans to spring sports. In an effort to fill lesser-attended spring sports, HyperFrogs president Granger Talley said the organization initiated the spring incentive program last year. The incentive, a 38-inch TV, will be given to the fan that attends the most games during the spring season.

The U.S. Senate has been working about as well as a car without gasoline lately.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin recently wrote in The Nation, "Despite record-high persistent unemployment, Republicans have repeatedly used the filibuster to kill attempts to extend benefits to the long-term jobless...filibusters have prevented Democrats from addressing urgent national priorities ranging from climate change to immigration reform to energy transformation."

Two honorees will be inducted into the Schieffer School Hall of Excellence for their contributions to the Schieffer School of Journalism on Oct. 12, the chair of the selection committee said.

Professor Tommy Thomason, founder of the Hall of Excellence and chair of the selections committee, said Doug Newsom and Steve Buttry earned their nominations for their outstanding contributions to their fields.

Thomason started the Schieffer School Hall of Excellence to recognize people who have brought national and international acclaim to the Schieffer School.

New service allows for personalized license plates

There is a new way for students to express themselves 8212; sometimes in six characters or less.

My Plates, a specialty license plate marketing vendor, is striving to make personalized license plates more popular and diverse throughout Texas, including college campuses, spokesperson Kim Drummond said.

Drummond said that although a purple Texas Christian University license plate design is not currently sold by My Plates, one complete with a horned frog is waiting to go through the state approval process. It is expected to be released by My Plates March 15 of next year.
