2010 Olympics update: U.S.A. with highest medal count

The U.S. stretched its medals lead to six today, moving the medals count to 17.

Alpine skier Julia Mancuso won her second silver of the 2010 Winter Games, this time in the ladies' super combined.



The women also brought home a silver and bronze in the snowboard halfpipe finals.



The men's and women's curling teams both lost to Denmark. Neither team has one a round robin session at these Winter Games.

The final rounds of the 2009 Texas high school girls' basketball state tournament were played in Austin where Starr Crawford led Mansfield Summit to the state title.

Now Crawford is on another team that hopes to finish its season a few hours south of Fort Worth.



The 2010 NCAA Women's Final Four will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio during Easter weekend, and the No. 23 Horned Frogs women's basketball team is in line to make its ninth tournament appearance in ten years.

Conservative rally meets Saturday to discuss upcoming Republican primary

The High Noon in Cowtown conservative rally Saturday will give students and community members a chance to meet many of the local candidates for the March 2 Republican primary, an event organizer said.

Glen Bucy, a senior political science major and organizer of the event, said it was important for the rally to take place during early voting to give voters the opportunity to cast their ballot after hearing the candidates' platforms while the momentum of the rally was still in effect.

Following a bore of a day Tuesday, the U.S. made a huge turnaround Wednesday bringing in two golds.

Lindsey Vonn won the No. 1 spot in the women's downhill skiing competition, accompanied on the podium by teammate Julia Mancuso with the silver. Vonn won the gold in her first event of the 2010 Winter Games after failing to medal at all in Torino in 2006. For a full story on Vonn's win go to dailyskiff.com.

Women’s tennis falls to Mustangs 0-7

The No. 23 TCU women's tennis team fell 0-7 to No. 30 SMU during their first home game at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center indoor facility on Wednesday.

"We fought really hard all of the way but were ultimately outclassed," TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "Every single player gave their best but sometimes the best is not enough. We will definitely train harder for the next game."

Foster Hall adds a more interactive recycling program

For students living in Foster Hall, recycling just got a little more personal.



The Foster Hall Council started a program that provides residents with free recycling bins for their rooms. The goal of the program is to get students more directly involved with recycling and increase overall awareness of the benefits of recycling, said Katie Poe, Foster Hall assistant hall director.

The recent Christmas Day attempted terrorist attack has once again raised the proverbial red flags in question of the nation's domestic safety. Amongst heightened fears comes a report from a commission to analyze U.S. defense mechanisms and proposed responses to an attack threatening national security. She is not a top university administrator or a sports coach, but most students and staff at the university know Lieu Nguyen.

Her claim to fame? A good memory and an endearing smile.



Nguyen, a cashier at Market Square, is well known on campus for her sweet disposition and her ability to remember everyone's name. She has now been recognized for her hard work by Sodexo, the university's food service provider that offers services to hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide.
