More preparation needed for influx of residents

Published Aug 26, 2008

Once again, TCU has more students wanting a place on campus to lay their heads than spaces available.

It's no surprise that there is such a demand for housing. With gas prices still high, there's no need for a long commute, and residence halls promote much needed community and consistency for students during a time where they are undergoing one of the biggest transitions of their lives.

Weather, drainage problem cause for Union’s construction delay

Published Aug 26, 2008

Construction of the Brown-Lupton University Union is scheduled to be completed soon, after more effective drainage plans had to be cleared by the city of Fort Worth, a TCU official said.

Don Mills, vice chancellor for student affairs, said weather, in addition to drainage problems caused by flooding in the Campus Commons and the construction site, led to the BLUU's grand opening being pushed back to Sept. 2 from its expected August opening,

Mills said the drainage problem was an "engineering challenge," but the city has been a good partner.

Craig Allen, director of Residential Services, said an increasing demand for on-campus housing has been a trend for the past few years.

"More appealing buildings are on campus, causing students to want to live here," he said.

The university introduced a policy last fall requiring freshman and sophomore students to live on campus.
