Police: Residence hall burglar caught, jailed

A convicted burglar was arrested Monday on charges of burglarizing TCU residence halls, TCU Police said.Police say they have caught the burglar who broke into two on-campus residences earlier this month while the occupants were asleep.

Fort Worth police arrested Richard Henry Ramfield, 28, at 9 a.m. Monday on charges of burglary of habitation. TCU Police said Ramfield is suspected of stealing a PlayStation, money and a wallet. Ramfield was released from the penitentiary Sept. 1 on similar charges, said TCU Police Sgt. Kelly Ham.

Frogs pull out victory at San Diego State

The Horned Frogs overcame three first-half turnovers and erased a 13-7 halftime deficit Saturday to beat San Diego State 23-20 in a game that moved TCU one shaky step closer to its first outright conference title in almost 50 years."We know we were very fortunate to get out of here with a win," head coach Gary Patterson said.

Junior wide receiver Cory Rodgers ran for a six-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to put the Frogs up 20-13, their first lead of the second half.

Candidates in the student government elections voiced their opinions on community issues, but some students who listened said they felt they were given too much information at once.The candidate forum, which was held in the Brown-Lupton Student Center Lounge on Monday, included a panel of candidates who answered questions asked by the host and the student audience.

Jason Ratigan, a candidate for vice president, said all the candidates have different ideas but similar goals.

The TCU volleyball team fell to No. 13 Brigham Young in four games Friday and to Utah in three games Saturday in the University Recreation Center.After losing the first two games, TCU rebounded to take the third game before falling to BYU. Freshman setter Nirelle Hampton posted her third double-double of the season against the Cougars.

TCU fell to Utah in three games.

Freshman outside hitter Devon Kirk led TCU with eight kills.

The losses dropped TCU to 3-7 in the Mountain West Conference and 15-11 overall.

Major/Minor fair offers two early registrations

Two early class registration time slots and free popcorn will be up for grabs at Wednesday's Major/Minor Fair.The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Brown-Lupton Student Center Ballroom, and the registration times will be presented at the awards ceremony, which begins at 1:45 p.m.

The early registration times are door prizes that will allow students to register for classes on the first day possible - no matter their classification. Students do not have to be present at the awards ceremony to claim their prize.

TCU finishes sixth in Colorado

TCU's men's and women's cross country teams were defeated at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Championships meet Saturday on the Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. The men placed last out of 6 teams, while the women placed eighth in a nine-team tournament.

Brigham Young swept the championships.

Senior Kip Kongogo came in at 24:35.3, received All-Conference recognition and third place at the meet.

Despite the poor overall finishes, head coach Patrick Cuniff said he saw good things at the meet.

Economics class disappointed in wage forum

At my urging, members of my labor economics class attended the Living Wage Forum with a panel of four TCU faculty members (one each from social work, religion, political science and management) last week. We have spent weeks exploring the causes and consequences of growing income inequality in the United States as well as policies, including the living wage, directed at compressing the income distribution, so my students had valuable insights to contribute. However, their voices were not welcome at the forum.

Coach says game plan is key against ranked Utah teams

Sophomore setter Loren Barry said preparation could make the difference in TCU's upcoming games against No. 13 Brigham Young and Utah this weekend.The Horned Frogs enter the second half of conference play on a three-game winning streak, including a come-from-behind win over the Colorado State Rams on Tuesday.

"We've been working really hard this week, and any team can win on any given day," Barry said. " It's just about who comes out more prepared and whose mind is in the right place."
