Most people likely believe each individual has certain rights that are guaranteed simply by their humanity. Since food and shelter are fundamental needs, these things should be guaranteed to all people. Minimum wage is hardly enough to sustain a family, and many people, especially immigrant workers or those with little education, have to work multiple jobs to make enough money to pay rent. The concept of a living wage has emerged to remedy this problem.

A TCU nursing educator has received an exclusive health profession award and plans to use it to TCU's advantage.Dr. Paulette Burns, director of the Harris School of Nursing, is one of 20 Fellows chosen by the Robert Wood Foundation in 2005 and said she hopes it will create more graduate opportunities for TCU nurses.

"I want to expand clinical and organizational skills at the doctoral level to match the health care needs of today," Burns said.

TCU junior quarterback Jeff Ballard will likely start this Saturday's game against New Mexico in place of injured senior Tye Gunn, head coach Gary Patterson said. Gunn was forced out of last week's game against Brigham Young with a shoulder injury.

"Right now, Tye couldn't play," Patterson said. "Tye will take mental repetitions this week. If we don't have to play him, we won't, but we'll see how this week progresses."

Ballard, who took over for the injured Gunn late in the third quarter of Saturday's game, said Sunday that Gunn's shoulder "popped out of place."

The Horned Frog women's tennis team went to Denton to play at the North Texas invitational over the weekend.TCU's walk-ons competed in the tournament. Sophomore Melissa Ber‚ won a consolation title with two victories in the singles tournament.

She defeated her opponent Austin Mills 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 prior to her straight sweep of Marissa Brown 6-2, 6-4.

Ber‚ was not the only player to snatch a victory as sophomore Lindsay McBride got her first win this season over her opponent Deanna Carrillo, 6-1, 6-0.

Over the weekend, the Horned Frog volleyball team went 2-1 in a tournament at the University Recreation Center that was cut short by Hurricane Rita's anticipated arrival.The team fell to Winthrop on Friday in five sets as the Eagles fought through tough competition to claim victory.

Sophomore LeMeita Smith led the Frogs to a win in game one with her five kills and one block.

Game two began with three straight aces by Anna Vaughn, but the Eagles quickly recovered to win the game, with Taryn Surbaugh and Mary Hock combining for nine kills and 2.5 blocks.

While NASA's plan to return to the moon is commendable, its methods lack the spirit of exploration and adventure, which characterized the original Apollo program - a true failure of the American spirit.NASA plans to launch its shuttle replacement and primary craft for lunar missions, the Crew Exploration Vehicle, in 2014. The CEV is a reusable craft that will take off atop a booster rocket and will land with retro-rockets and parachutes in much the same way as the Apollo capsules landed.

Once upon a time, a boy would ask a girl on an official date, she would dress up, he would bring flowers, and at the end of the night he could only hope for a kiss at the doorstep.Fast forward to 2005, and the overuse of instant messenger, Facebook.com and the ever-elusive text-message, and dating has been diminished to an event of the past.

Any conversations at all seem limited to surroundings involving a cocktail at Snookie's or beerpong at the nearest house party. Impressing a girl has ceased entirely.

Hispanic Heritage month presents cultural issues

TCU's celebration of Hispanic Heritage month continues this week with two of three scheduled educational series hosted by faculty members. Cecilia Silva, a professor in the School of Education, will lead a discussion at noon Tuesday in the lobby of the Brown-Lupton Student Center on education in the Hispanic community.

Sophomore social work major Daisy Delgado is a member of the Hispanic Heritage month planning committee and helped organize the educational series.
