Next semester, TCU News Now and the Daily Skiff and Skiff Advertising will welcome back two former student media leaders and one new one.

Senior news-editorial and history double major Libby Davis said she is glad to return as editor-in-chief of the TCU Daily Skiff.

"I feel a lot more comfortable with it, especially the second time around," Davis said.

Davis has worked for the publication since her freshman year with stints as a photographer, opinion columnist, staff reporter, opinion editor, news editor and editor-in-chief.

The band marches out on the field at halftime as fans wait in anticipation. Hannah Harvey takes her place atop the drum major's podium and looks to the center drum major for her cue. Her hands begin floating through the air in identical formation with the other two drum majors. The modest chimes that begin in the percussion section gradually flourish as other sections of the 200-member band join in.

Staying in sync visually is the key to keeping the band in time, Harvey said. With a band as large as the Horned Frog Marching Band, it's easy for a section to lose tempo.

TCU head football coach Gary Patterson traveled to Bristol, Conn. today for on-set appearances at several ESPN shows, according to a press release from media relations director Mark Cohen.

Patterson will be making the trip during the Frogs' first bye week. Patterson said the bye week was well-deserved after going 11-0 in 11 straight weeks.

The shows he will appear on include "SportsCenter," "Mike and Mike in the Morning" and "College Football Live."

One of the first memories I have of the year 2007 was celebrating what I thought was the failure and imminent collapse of the Bowl Championship Series. A team from Boise, Idaho, had beaten the University of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, 43-42, with what was probably the best play call I've ever seen.

At my high school, after the game, everyone was talking about how great the Boise State Broncos were, and I happily joined in singing the Broncos' praises. Conversations about the team continued when I arrived at TCU, but in a markedly different tone.

These days, I sometimes feel like my mind is being pulled in a million directions by a million separate threads 8212; most likely due to my smart phone. With iPhones and other devices rather pervasive throughout the market, people's minds are being pulled in more and more directions by the multitude of things these phones can do.

The reason smart phones are the most probable cause of our ever-stretched minds is that these phones can do so much. It is more of an argument to question what these phones cannot do, versus the abundance of things they can do.

Swimming & Diving at Wyoming

The men's and women's swimming & diving teams will compete against Wyoming today. The program will earn its 400th win in its history with one more victory. It would also be head coach Richard Sybesma's 400th career win, as he has been they only coach of the TCU swimming & diving team. The women's team is 2-1 for the season, and the men's team is 1-0.

As temperatures drop, the Staff Assembly Community Service Committee has asked students, faculty and staff to donate winter coats of all sizes for middle school students.

Coats can be dropped off at various locations on campus and will benefit students at Kirkpatrick Middle School in Fort Worth Independent School District. The drive will continue through the winter, but committee members said they hoped to receive the majority of the coats before Nov. 30. New and used coats will be accepted.

On Monday, a Daily Skiff article reported that the university may consider signing a petition asking President Barack Obama to lift restrictions against study abroad programs to Cuba, provided the TCU Jazz Band's six-day trip to the island next month goes smoothly. The band will be one of the first college groups in decades to visit the communist country since the U.S. government heavily restricts travel to Cuba.
