Newly-installed ID card swipe will keep library exclusive to students

Published Oct 13, 2010

A newly-installed ID card swipe outside of Mary Couts Burnett Library gives exclusive access to the library for students during the hours of midnight to 7 a.m., June Koelker, the dean of the library, said.

The new card swipe location is not for security purposes, but was implemented to enhance library use for students by keeping out non-students during the later hours, Koelker said.

Students entering will now have to swipe their TCU ID to get in the front door, then again at the turn-styles in the entryway.

"In 1930, when that stadium was built, we were coming through the [Great] Depression," Del Conte said. "In the hardest times in our nation, they decided to build something special at TCU. We're going through pretty tough times right now, aren't we?"

Attention local speed demons 8212; the City of Fort Worth is watching you, but don't worry, it's for your own good.

As anyone who has driven down some of the major streets in the university area would know, red light cameras have been popping up at many intersections recently. Flooring it at the last minute as you approach a light may seem like a good way to save time, but you won't be feeling so sly when a $75 ticket arrives at your doorstep a few weeks later.

Strong political bipartisanship obstructs exchange of ideas

The Dallas Cowboys are my team. There's just no other way around it. It's my favorite team and has been so ever since I was a little boy watching the games on my father's lap. I irrationally love and root for the Cowboys, even though I've never met any of the players, coaches or members of the organization. Every season, I dream of the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl, no matter how distant those odds are, and defend every player on the team, even though I have no personal connection to them.

Ray Brown, dean of admissions, said the increase in total minority students does not show in the overall percentage because the overall class size is growing as well. Minority students have made up 20 percent of the student body for last three incoming classes.
