The Horned Frogs, now 2-3 in conference, were defeated by Mountain West Conference rival University of Nevada Las Vegas Running Rebels Saturday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum 70-79.

The game was nationally televised on CBS College Sports, while 4,270 excited fans filled the stands.



The Horned Frogs kept it close through the first half with ball-control offense and hustle with transition defense. They started off the first half trailing by 3 points.



Timely three-pointers in the first half kept TCU within striking distance.

Taxes, banks and bailouts detrimental to economy

Over winter break the British government announced a 50 percent tax on banker bonuses of more than $40,700. Like the United States' banks, British banks were also bailed out in the current recession, and many were outraged by these bonuses. Many say that the U.S. should follow suit with the Europeans' example. To do so, however, would be idiotic, unthinkable and downright unconstitutional.

Thankfully, our Founding Fathers were intelligent enough to write down the rights we have as Americans. They learned from their previous rulers that laws can sometimes be unfair and unjust.

Ranch management Roundup sets greenhouse gases and economy as theme

Greenhouse gas emissions regulations and current economic issues will be the main focus of two guest speakers at the ranch management department's annual Roundup Saturday.

Ron Gill, associate department head for extension at Texas A&M University, said he plans to talk about emerging issues in animal agriculture and different regulatory programs that impact Texas agriculture.



Mark Welch, an assistant professor and Texas AgriLife Extension Economist at Texas A&M University, will give an update on the economy as it pertains to ranchers.

Barnes & Noble may offer textbook rentals for college students

Students looking to save money on textbooks may soon have access to another option via a new book rental program initiated nationally by Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, a bookstore official said.

Roman Coronado, textbook manager at the university bookstore, said a textbook rental program at the university "could be a potentially good idea," but that the university has not confirmed any plans to implement the program. Barnes & Noble College Booksellers first introduced the rental option at a regional meeting a few months ago.

Conan’s exit leaves student intern stranded

Senior film-TV-digital media major Sam Wunderl was interning for "The Tonight Show" with Conan O'Brien, before O'Brien on Thursday struck a deal with NBC, ending his contract.

Wunderl said he was planning to stay in Los Angeles until June, but the uncertain future of the show has left many on staff worried for their jobs.



Wunderl said the deal between O'Brien and NBC was at a lengthy standstill prior to Thursday because Conan wanted more severance pay for his staff.

Friends honor Bebout at memorial service

Junior nursing major Amanda Michelle Bebout will be remembered as a good friend, a caring nurse, a fearless adventurer, a devoted daughter, and most of all, a loving sister.

The pews in Robert Carr Chapel were filled Friday night as students and community members gathered to mourn the loss of a friend.



Senior entrepreneurial management major Andrew Kangerga said Bebout gave the best hugs and had a love for all of humanity.



"I'm sure she wishes she could take away all our pain," he said.

Neeley Leadership Week kicks off with executive lectures

The Leadership Center and the Neeley School of Business are collaborating to bring guest speakers from TOMS Shoes, Starbucks and Kodak to campus during the TCU Leadership Week Jan. 25-29.

Jimmy Hopper, a senior history major and Student Development Services intern, said speakers include TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, Sen. Florence Shapiro and Sandra Taylor, former senior vice president of corporate social responsibility for Starbucks and former vice president and director of public affairs for Kodak.

Rifle team hopes to keep winning streak against the Cornhuskers

After a two-match sweep of Air Force last weekend, the rifle team (6-1) will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the Cornhuskers on Saturday.

The team is looking to continue a six-match winning streak as well as a second straight win over Nebraska this season, but will have to do so without two of its best shooters, head coach Karen Monez said.



TCU last defeated Nebraska 4,651-4,615 on Nov. 21 in a match where multiple Horned Frogs set personal bests.
