Students push for Froggie-Five-O male pick-up

Froggie Five-0 was created 13 years ago to provide transportation for female students to make campus safer. This year, student leaders on campus are asking why men can't get rides too.

TCU Police officer Pam Christian spoke at a Residence Hall Association meeting Nov. 4 about safety on campus and the availability of student escorts. Among the topics discussed included adding male student pick-ups by Froggie-Five-0, Residence Hall Association President Eric Russell said.

Students trade their trash for treasure

Frog Trade, a first-time campus trading event in which students swap their unwanted goods, took place Thursday on the lawn of Sadler Hall. Eye patches were optional.

Chase Bruton, a sophomore supply chain management and marketing major, traded 144 eye patches, a deck of cards, a kite and a glow stick for a pair of shoes and some movies.



Bruton, who described himself as sustainable, said he has all kinds of useless things in his room, so he attended the event to trade up.



"I got some great stuff," he said.

Well, it finally happened. A backfire, a compromise, a mishap.

Much to the chagrin of his overwhelming number of supporters and perhaps to the glee of his opponents, in an announcement made Tuesday evening, President Barack Obama stated that he will increase troop numbers in Afghanistan. The purpose of which, he said, will be to combat the remaining areas of insurgency, but more so in order to train the Afghan military to take over and assume eventual total responsibility.

Fox to spotlight watch party Sunday

Campus will be brimming with Horned Frog fever Sunday as the university is scheduled to hold its annual "Meet the Frogs," in which fans will get to meet and receive autographs from their favorite players and afterward will be able to hear the team's BCS bowl fate during the BCS Selection Sunday event at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. FOX is set to film footage of fan reactions inside the coliseum to air on the network's BCS Selection Show.

"We're honored FOX thought enough of the program to spotlight us in this manner," said Mark Cohen, athletics media relations director.

Two entrepreneurs join board of trustees

Two oil and gas entrepreneurs have joined the university's board of trustees.

The new trustees, Bruce Hunt and Duer Wagner, attended their first board meeting in November. Hunt is president of Dallas-based oil and gas company Petro-Hunt Corp. He is a parent of two TCU graduates and one current undergraduate student. Wagner, who is an alumnus, heads an oil and gas company named Duer Wagner III Inc., with offices in Dallas and Fort Worth.

DFW Duel ends in Horned Frog victory

The men's basketball team completed the second half of the DFW Duel by beating the SMU Mustangs 60-53 in Dallas.

The Horned Frogs capitalized on defensive rebounds and a string of Mustang turnovers that began the second half to come back from a 28-23 deficit at the break. TCU point guard Ronnie Moss got up to block a Mustang shot with 28 seconds left that would lead to a Frog victory in Moody Coliseum.

Where the Frogs stand in the BCS shake up

This Sunday, the football team will find out where they will be spending early January. While the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar Bowls are all possibilities, reading the BCS tea leaves and an understanding of how the bowls are chosen leaves one option most likely.

First and foremost, there is an order to how the BCS bowls select teams every year. Once the automatic qualifiers are placed in their bowls, the remaining slots are "drafted" from eligible schools.
