The alarm blares too early, the test was harder than it should have been, there's no clean clothes, no food in the pantry and no one to go out with this weekend.


Sometimes life is just too much. Or sometimes, you feel like complaining about all the little things to anyone who will listen.


The bad things seem to overshadow the good, and before you know it, you have managed to pull everyone down into your pity party.


Someone is out to change that.

Operas rekindle old debate

Rivalry and harmonious beauty brought two of the most famous classical composers together 232 years ago, and their operas will be performed this weekend on campus.

Violent online videos should be removed as entertainment

People can find a wide range of videos on Web sites, such as YouTube.


From choreographed wedding dances to the ranting of a woman over a divorce to the latest comedy bits, most of the videos are pretty harmless and entertaining.


However, some are not so funny.


With the craze of becoming famous in the online "ce-Web-rity" world, people have resorted to outrageous stunts to try to get attention. But the most horrifying trend that has appeared recently is videos of girls beating up each other.

New complex to house athletics offices, locker rooms

A new athletics center that will provide new locker rooms and offices for some athletic teams is in the design stages, the associate director of athletics said.


The Worth Hills Olympic Building will house offices for several coaches, including track, soccer, rifle and golf, as well as locker rooms for these teams, said Ross Bailey, associate director of athletics. Bailey said the building will also provide new facilities for the sports medicine and strength and conditioning departments, as well as new storage for sports equipment.

Less popular sports deserve same attention, amenities

A new building will house players and coaches of some of TCU's less-recognized Horned Frog teams.

The track, soccer, rifle and golf programs, which are often overlooked for more popular sports like football, baseball and basketball, will finally have a place to call home.



Putting these teams and coaches together in one building will increase camaraderie among the sports and will help build a more cohesive athletics department.

The undefeated No. 20TCU women's tennis team enters the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tennis Championship as the No. 1 seed on its home courts.


The conference championships, which start today, are being held at the Friedman Tennis Center.


The Horned Frogs (18-4, 8-0) have played near perfect at home this season, entering with a 9-1 record on their own courts.

A broken gas line led to two evacuations of the Brown-Lupton Student Center and Reed Hall just before noon today.


Larry Markley, director of the Brown-Lupton Student Center, said he called the Physical Plant after they began to smell gas leaking into Suite 111.


"They came over and said that we needed to evacuate," Markley said. "(The leak) wasn't in the building, but some of the gas was leaking into the building."

Student public-relations team finalist in national competition

The advertising/public relations team from TCU is among three finalists out of 76 teams in one of the most prestigious public relations competitions in the nation, its adviser said.


The TCU PR team, Cowtown Communications, is presenting its Bateman case study campaign May 2 at the General Motors Headquarters in Detroit, said Amiso George, associate professor of journalism and academic adviser for the Bateman team.

The Faculty and Staff Annual Campaign aims to surpass last year's record participation from faculty and staff to appeal to donors, said the Faculty Senate chair.


The percentage of faculty and staff giving is important because it looks good when donors see that employees give back, said Stuart Youngblood, Faculty Senate chair.


"It shows that the people that work here actually care," Youngblood said.

But similar to recent films with the Judd Apatow tag attached (Apatow produced), "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" mixes cute and cuddly romance with fart jokes. You know, one of those movies enjoyable for the supposed feminine and masculine sides of the movie appreciation spectrum.
