The first long meet of the season left some room for improvement for head coach Richard Sybesma's swimmers after the teams' performances at Colorado State last weekend."We need to get a little bit stronger and better conditioned as a whole team," Sybesma said.

One of the factors affecting the swimmers was the change in altitude, and for freshman-heavy squads, the thinner air did have an impact during the three days of competition. The combination of altitude and the lengthy meet took its toll on the swimmers by the end of the weekend, Sybesma said.

Police meet technical snags locating harassing KTCU caller

Technical difficulties arose Wednesday when police tried to trace the threatening phone calls made to KTCU FM 88.7 "The Choice" that caused the station to shut down Tuesday night, a source close to the investigation said. The source said police wanted to look at phone records, but the phones at the station don't have caller ID because they are analog. The source said police were looking for other ways to track the call Wednesday.

A TCU graduate said his love of Fort Worth motivated him to take over as CEO of United Way Tarrant County after more than 30 years in the banking industry.Tim McKinney will join the United Way on Nov. 19 after serving as executive vice president of Texas Capital Bank, said Tom Hund, chairman of the United Way's board of directors.

"I grew up here. I was raised here," McKinney said. "I worked here, and I have a special place in the community."

Study abroad program in Greece now available

Students now have the opportunity to study about the ancient world in Greece. English professor Richard Enos was notified Tuesday that TCU had been approved as a cooperating institution with the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.

ASCSA is an institution in Greece where American scholars can conduct advanced research in the areas of language, literature, art, history, archaeology and the philosophy of Greece, according to the university's Web site.

Thursday game brings record turnout for TABC

There were more Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officers than usual at the TCU vs. University of Utah football game Thursday, said an assistant vice chancellor.Darron Turner, assistant vice chancellor for Student Affairs who manages tailgates for football games, said there were more TABC officers at this event than ever before.

Turner said he didn't have an average number of how many TABC officers are usually present at tailgates, but said the number at this game was high.

KTCU FM 88.7 "The Choice" was shut down Tuesday at about 8:45 p.m. after a threat was phoned into the station, according to police.TCU Police Sgt. Alvin Allcon said the threat against the station, located on the first floor of Moudy Building South, came from a person who had called a number of times over the past couple of weeks to complain about the format of the station.

Reportedly, there were three disc jockeys in the station at the time of the call.

Symposium to discuss education’s role in citizen’s development

Faculty and students will share a platform tonight to understand what it means to be responsible citizens during the Searchlight Symposium.At the symposium, Mike Sacken, a professor in the College of Education, and Michael Dodson, a political science professor, will discuss how education and international politics relate to being a responsible citizen.

Sacken said the topic of the event will relate to rights, respect and responsibilities.
