Volleyball: Team makes quick work of conference foe

A sweep of conference opponents last week brings the volleyball team to its strongest start under head coach Prentice Lewis.The 15-2 record for the Horned Frogs trumps the 13-2 start for Lewis and her squad during the 2006 season.

In a weekend match against last seasons' Mountain West Conference last place finishers, Air Force, the Horned Frogs managed to notch a quick three-game match victory.

Police chief opts to not use Tasers

To carry or not to carry? That is the question TCU Police have to ask when deciding whether officers will carry guns or Tasers while on duty.Chief of Police Steve McGee said all of the police officers carry guns but they don't carry Tasers.

Taser usage on campus has become a controversial issue following an incident at the University of Florida in which a student was Tased while trying to ask a question at a John Kerry forum.

It is McGee's decision and at this point, he said, he does not want officers to carry them.

IFC proposal outlines punishment for bid-day fight

A proposal regarding the punishments for four fraternities involved in a bid-night fight has been finalized.The fraternities involved in the fight will do community service hours as their proposed punishment, according to the Interfraternity Council's sanction proposal.

The proposal was released Thursday evening by James Parker, assistant dean of Campus Life after the final draft was presented to him by IFC Chief Justice Dane Pearson.

The punishment will not be final until Campus Life has approved it, Pearson said.

Surrounded by bodyguards and the last person to get off the bus, Jerry LeVias thought he was a "big superstar" for Southern Methodist University.To others, he was a dead man walking.

LeVias was the first black scholarship athlete in the old Southwest Conference, a conference of which TCU was a member for 72 years beginning in 1923.

An anonymous caller had vowed, using a racial slur, to kill LeVias if he set foot on TCU's campus.

After 21 years and 26 matches, the soccer team will be looking for the program's first win against SMU tonight in Dallas.Since TCU's first match with SMU back in 1986, the team has an all-time record of 0-24-2 against the Mustangs including a 2-0 loss last season in Fort Worth.

Even with the 0-24-2 all-time record, freshman defender and midfielder Cheryl Martin guaranteed a win for the Horned Frogs.

"I think that our team this year, we're so much better," Martin said. "There's no chance we won't beat them."

Yet it has taken centuries for those responsible for this operation to acknowledge and apologize for their roles.Recently, London Mayor Ken Livingstone tearfully apologized for the role London played in the slave trade. Both former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair and Livingstone have admitted how deeply sorrowed they are about this aspect of their country's history at events prior to Livingstone's recent remarks, but without official apologies.

Five alumni athletes were remembered for their accomplishments and cemented into Horned Frogs athletics history when they were inducted into the Letterman's Hall of Fame on Thursday.The five former Horned Frogs - Jamie Dixon, James Maness, Al Paschal, David Roditi and Mike Sullivan - were honored as the class of 2007 at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center before a group of administrators, alumni, family and friends.
