Students present original pieces during lunchtime recital

Students and faculty were able to eat their lunches while watching dancers perform in a student choreography showcase Monday.Brown Bag Dance is sponsored by the dance honor society, Chi Tau Epsilon, and is produced entirely by students.

The informal dance recital is open to all dance majors and happens once every semester. The hour-long performance is open to all students and faculty.

Dance faculty members were not required to attend but many lined the first two rows to show their support, said Allie Stevens, a modern dance major and choreographer for the show.

Sister university under year-long warning for accreditation

The Universidad de las Americas, which has come under scrutiny for the closure and subsequent reopening of its newspaper, is garnering more unwanted attention. TCU's sister university has been placed under a yearlong warning by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the agency that accredits both UDLA and TCU.

SACS, an American agency that accredits universities in 11 U.S. states and Latin America, gave the university its warning when UDLA filed a follow-up report after a 2005 affirmation of its accreditation.

The Frogs continued plugging away in the stat book Saturday night with double digit performances by three players.
Forwards Femi Ibikunle, Kevin Langford and Alvardo Parker all managed to score at least 10 points, but the result was the same as the previous eight games: a loss. "It's frustrating when you have a good game and lose," said Langford who had 22 points on the night. "I'd rather have a mediocre game and win."

The Lady Frogs are in the midst of a three game winning streak after toppling the Air Force Falcons today.

The Frogs kicked off their first of three straight home games with a 86-48 win over the Falcons, but started off slow again in the first half.



"Missed defensive plays and a lackluster effort on the glass had me questioning their focus," head coach Jeff Mittie said about the Frog's first half.


ADPi raises money with ‘mocktail’ contest

Ladies and gentlemen, start your blenders.Women and men alike from organizations across campus joined together Thursday for Alpha Delta Pi's seventh annual Mardi Gras Mocktails Blend-Off philanthropy.

The event, which raises money for the Ronald McDonald House, comprises 20 Greek and non-Greek organizations dressing up as part of a group's collective theme and making "mocktails" to be judged later in the evening.

Women score another victory, add to streak of conference wins

The Lady Frogs are building another conference winning streak after pulling away with a win against Colorado State on Wednesday.Despite a losing road record this season, the win in Fort Collins, Colo., increased the team's Mountain West Conference record to 7-3 as the Frogs start looking toward the conference tournament in March.

"We had another roll game, which is big for us," said senior forward Hanna Biernacka.

Body Worlds exhibit in Dallas offers realistic depiction of body

It may seem unlikely that people donate their bodies to have them displayed in a museum, but they do - making Body Worlds as real as both you and I.Gunther von Hagens' Body Worlds turns science and anatomy into an educational art form, fascinating for all ages. The exhibit is currently on display at the Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas.

Notice Duke lacrosse for talent, not past players’ indictments

The Duke lacrosse team was accused of a heinous crime last March involving the alleged rape of a stripper at a party.Three players were indicted on charges of rape, sexual offense and kidnapping.

Because of this, the nation was thrown into an uproar, and the team canceled all of its games after March 21, 2006, last season.

Now, 10 months later, the team is preparing to take the field once again, and I am imploring all of you to drop everything that has happened and let the athletes play.

Perry’s vaccine initiative needed

Gov. Rick Perry crossed the party line during Tuesday's State of the State address, and he did so in favor of women's health.Perry ordered that beginning September 2008, sixth-grade girls should be vaccinated for the human papilloma virus. The vaccine can prevent HPV virus types that cause 70 percent of cervical cancer, according to the Gynecological Cancer Foundation.

But some of Perry's conservative Republican base is up-in-arms about the mandate.

Some legislators argue that the order encourages girls to be sexually promiscuous and strips away parental rights.
