Frogs win MWC championship title

The Horned Frogs claimed the 2010 Conoco Mountain West Conference baseball championship, accumulating a 2-0 victory against New Mexico Friday night.

With the victory, TCU improved to 46-11 on the season.



The Frogs turned two doubles plays late in the game and made an early pair of runs stand up to take home the title. It is the fourth time in the last five years the Frogs have won both the regular season and tournament titles.

Student lost control of vehicle

TCU student Sri Rama Chandra Murthy Vempati lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the driver's side door, which caused the injuries that led to his death, according to the accident report.

Vempati, 21, was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. on Sunday May 16, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.



According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's report, the death was caused by a "closed head injury" that occurred during the car accident.

Women’s golf readying for NCAA Championship

The No. 18 women's golf team will make its 12 NCAA Championship appearance Tuesday at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in Wilmington, N.C.

This will also be the seventh year the Frogs go to the championships under 16th-year head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. The Horned Frogs won the 1983 national title.



The Horned Frogs are one of just eight teams to reach the NCAA Championship the last four years. It's the first time in program history TCU has qualified for the event in four consecutive seasons.

The No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs accumulated their 39th win of the season with an 8-2 victory over Air Force Friday night at Lupton Stadium after winning the Mountain West Conference season title hours earlier.

Kyle Winkler was solid in eight innings of work to earn his eighth win of the season. Taylor Featherston tallied three hits in the game and Jason Coats drove in two.



Winkler (8-1) allowed just two runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out six in eight innings. Eric Marshall pitched a perfect ninth inning to seal up the victory. He fanned one batter.

Frogs fall against Air Force 4-2

The Horned Frogs left 13 runners stranded, resulting in a 4-2 lost against Air Force Saturday afternoon.

The Frogs picked up 12 hits in the game. Senior Matt Curry set the single-season record for doubles with his 24th in the third inning.



Redshirt junior Steven Maxwell (8-1) was the tough-luck loser as he surrendered a pair of runs on three hits. Unfortunately, two of the three hits left the ballpark. Along the way, he fanned six batters and issued just one walk. Senior Tyler Lockwood gave up two runs on a hit in an inning of work.

Men’s golf team swings toward the NCAA Championships

The men's golf team will make the Frogs' 21st consecutive NCAA Regional Championship appearance on May 19 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

This will make the Frogs only one of four programs in the country to reach 20 or more consecutive berths with the same coach. Last season, the Frogs finished fourth overall at the NCAA Regional Championships en route to securing a berth at the 2009 NCAA Championships where they finished ninth overall.
