Horned Frogs gain victory over the Utes with 8-2

OGDEN, Utah - The No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs won its fourth straight series sweep, the first in the university's history, with an 8-2 victory against Utah Utes on Sunday afternoon.

TCU improved to a 34-9 conference winning streak on the season and 14-3 in league play. The Frogs will take the week off for finals and return to travel to New Mexico for a pivotal Mountain West Conference showdown with the Aztecs. Friday's series-opener is set for 1 p.m. (CST).

University has high undergrad return rate for grad school

Josh Noble spent one year working for SurfRay, a partner of Microsoft, before he realized he would need a graduate degree in order to further his management skills.

Noble, a 2008 university graduate with a degree in biology, said he will return to the university to begin the Evening Professional Master in Business Administration program in fall 2010.



Noble returned to the university's graduate program because of the proximity to home, the team-focused environment and the quality of the programs available.

Graduate stands out for job among 150 applicants

Within one week, Kate Lunati went from having no interviews and no phone calls to having a job as a trauma Intensive Care Unit nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.

Lunati got the call from the hospital on March 19.



"I stopped breathing; I was so excited," said Lunati, a senior nursing major. "So much stress was just gone."



Lunati was chosen from 150 applicants for a position and said she only interviewed once to get the job she wanted.



"It only takes one," Lunati said.

Sorority grad gains leadership role with national chapter

As a freshman going though recruitment, senior Polly Niccoli said she never imagined she would one day be employed by her sorority. Niccoli, a graphic design major, has been a member of Pi Beta Phi since her freshman year.

"I really think it was meant to be," Niccoli said. "I know it sounds cliche but I think it's true, the sorority chooses you just as much as you choose the sorority,"

Student-run campus ministry gaining rapid popularity

A recently established student-run campus ministry has caught fire with university students in the past several weeks.

More than 500 students attended Monday night's Ignite college worship. Students from University of North Texas and Texas A&M University joined Horned Frogs at the third Ignite meeting.



Paige Nettles, a senior fashion merchandising major, pioneered Ignite last semester. Nettles said the goal of the nondenominational ministry is to bring college students together to worship and hear the gospel in a comfortable setting.

Official: Internship legality not an issue

Despite increased media attention about the legality of unpaid internships in recent weeks, the university did not have a problem with students reporting doing unrelated work in their career field at an unpaid internship, a Career Services official said.

According to an April 2 article in The New York Times, federal and state officials had concerns that employers used unpaid internships for free labor by having students do work that was mostly noneducational, such as making coffee and sweeping bathrooms.

Sodexo protest does not affect university

While labor disputes between Sodexo and some of its employees have not surfaced on campus like they have in other states, Sodexo employees at the university may have nowhere to turn should trouble hit home.

In recent weeks, employees of Sodexo, the French-based multinational food service company contracted by the university, have incorporated strikes and civil disobedience as a part of the Service Employees International Union's protest efforts across 10 U.S. states against the company's alleged intimidation of employees seeking to unionize.

As I sit on the steps of Scharbauer Hall, watching the sun's golden rays dance on Frog Fountain, I can't help but feel a lump rising in my throat. The sun falls behind the Brown-Lupton University Union, and I suddenly realize my time at TCU is also drawing to a close. I've learned so much since I first began the daunting journey called college four years ago.

It all began with Frog Camp. I never knew three days could have such an impact on my life.

After completing the 26-mile Cowtown Marathon on Feb. 27, Brett Major said he could barely feel his legs.

"It's such a mental struggle to finish a marathon," said Major, a senior psychology major.



Major had a big crowd of supporters on the day of the marathon. Christin Lynch, a senior nursing major, said she ran alongside Major for a little bit and cheered him on.



"I don't know how he did it," Lynch said. "I feel so inspired. I have never had the desire to run this far, but watching him I feel like I could do it."

Four students chosen to represent Honors College

Four students will represent the John V. Roach Honors College in the House of Student Representatives for the first time this fall, following the House election this past week.

Seven students applied for the four recently allocated seats in the House, the results of which were released Wednesday.



Ron Pitcock, J. Vaughn & Evelyne H. Wilson Honors Fellow, said the diverse interests of honors students will be an asset to the House's representation.
