Profile: Freshman Meagan Henson

Published Jan 19, 2011

Freshman Meagan Henson claims she's been the shortest player on every basketball team she's ever been on. The shortest in YMCA, the shortest in middle and high school, the shortest on Amateur Athletic Union teams and now, naturally, shortest in college. But the Lady Frogs' reserve point guard hasn't allowed her roughly five-foot frame to slow her down yet 8212; Henson fights size with speed.

Civil case against TCU begins Thursday morning

Published Jan 19, 2011

A hearing that will determine if a civil suit filed against the university will continue to trial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today.

The suit, originally filed in 2008, alleges that university officials attempted to cover up a 2006 sexual assault.

The plaintiff, identified only as K.S., and her lawyers claim in the lawsuit that the university "attempted to cover up the misconduct of the miscreant athletes by urging K.S. not to report the drugging and gang-rape."

I can't play football worth a darn using both of my arms. I wouldn't have started for my high school football team if I had three arms, and I would have needed five arms to play for TCU. Chance Anthony...

Lady Frogs sneak past BYU, 54-51

Published Jan 19, 2011

TCU (13-6, 5-0 MWC) won its seventh game in a row in a nail-biter over BYU (11-7, 3-1 MWC) at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Wednesday night, 54-51.

With the shot clock winding down, freshman guard Briesha Wynn had nowhere to go and threw up a prayer.

The shot banked in off the glass and gave TCU a crucial four-point lead with 1:11 remaining in the game.

It was that kind of night for the Lady Frogs - ugly, but rewarding nonetheless.

Students should bring back ‘Riff Ram’

Published Jan 18, 2011

As a 1990 TCU graduate and a current graduate student on campus, I am more proud now than I have ever been to be a Horned Frog. I had the great opportunity to be in Pasadena to watch TCU win the Rose Bowl, and celebrating our Rose Bowl championship with a crowd of fans in the Coliseum Sunday afternoon was exciting.

But something was missing at both events: I did not hear Riff Ram, the school's traditional cheer, at either event.

After a successful run in the playoffs, a new owner and a renewed fan base, the Texas Rangers were expected to bully their way through the Hot Stove League sessions to improve their roster and gear up for another baseball season. Texas will still be favorites in the AL West Division this year, but ultimately, the Rangers failed to create the dominating juggernaut that they set out to make.

Flu cases on the rise

Published Jan 18, 2011

The number of flu cases on campus has risen, and the TCU Brown-Lupton Health Center is offering free flu vaccinations to all students.

Health Services Administrator Stacey Simpson said the increase of flu cases was not anything to worry about.

"It is just the winter. People come back from Christmas break with the germs, and it spreads." Simpson said.

Despite the fullness of the Health Center's waiting room, this year's flu season has been shaping up to be better than the 2009-2010 season, Simpson said.

"These awards were made available through an anonymous donor," Steele said. Students could be awarded up to $500.

About 170 students followed the slogan of this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day and decided to "Make it a day on, not a day off."

Melissa Gruver, community engagement coordinator, said that compared to its first year, the amount of service sites and students willing to serve doubled.

Almost 200 students volunteered at 10 different service sites in Tarrant County, Gruver said.
