As President Barack Obama spoke to the nation last night about the nation's involvement in Libya, he commented on how Americans cannot turn a blind eye to atrocities and disasters around the world when we have the opportunity to provide assistance, and he's right.

Even though we have an economy that is in a recession, a housing market on a shaky foundation, high unemployment, numerous social issues like abortion and gay marriage and the constant threat of terrorism, American citizens still have a pretty good life.

When TCU moved to Fort Worth it was a fledgling university of less than 500 students in a city of 73,000. In the century since, the two have grown hand-in-hand to more than 9,000 students in a city of almost a quarter-million people.

Rocky Deutscher has lived in the TCU community for more than 20 years. Her husband recently retired from the university and the couple is very active at the university and with their neighborhood association in University West.

Is my mind really all in my head?

A residence of logic and reason hardly seems a fitting place

for an imagination.

TCU junior Edgar Crespo set a TCU record in the 200-breaststroke Saturday at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship inside the University of Minnesota's University Aquatics Center.

Crespo clocked a 1:57.91 in the 200-breast to place 30th overall in his first time to compete in the event at the NCAA meet. His time of 1:58.60 at this season's Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships was the previous TCU all-time mark.

Seniors Tassie Munroe and Kelsey Huffman both collected MVP accolades as No. 8 TCU defeated No. 4 Oklahoma State Saturday at October Hill Farm, 12-8.

The Horned Frogs bested the Cowgirls with an overall score of 1,507-1,496.5. TCU not only downed OSU for only the third time in program history Saturday, but also captured its second-straight victory over the Cowgirls at home. With the win, the Purple and White closed their regular season 7-4 overall and 5-1 at home, while Oklahoma State dropped to 6-4.

The idea of taxing soda to trim waistlines has shown to be an ineffective way to reduce obesity. I agree that people who love soda will probably continue to buy soda. Several studies have shown this. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, states where soda taxes have been implemented have the highest obesity rates.

And, an article published in January 2010 in the journal Contemporary Economic Policy finds that while an increase in soft drink taxes would raise revenue for governments, it would likely place an unequal burden on those with lower incomes.

The TCU men's tennis fell on the road to No. 33 Rice 4-3, at the Jake Hess Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs' jumped on the Owls early, taking a 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point. After splitting the first two matches at the second and third courts, TCU's top doubles duo of seniors Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price needed a tiebreaker set to take down the Owls' team of Harry Fowler and Oscar Padlewski, 9-8 (2).
