University may add new fraternities

The university and the Interfraternity Council have invited three national fraternities 8212; Kappa Alpha, Beta Theta Pi and Delta Chi 8212; to begin the process of potentially becoming new fraternities on campus, IFC Adviser Keith Becklin said.

Becklin said the IFC planned to add one or two fraternities within the next 24 months, and, if there is a demand, a third fraternity. Sessions will be held early next week for the fraternities to present themselves to the TCU community.

Article on murdered transgender woman lacked sensitivity

A story in March 11's paper about Marcal Camero Tye, a transgender woman who was murdered in Arkansas, offended some of our readers. We received numerous emails and phone calls pointing out both a factual error in the story and an error in judgment on the part of the editors.

There was a factual error in the story. Originally, the story listed Tye as a man in women's clothing when she was in fact transgender. The Associated Press corrected the article the same day, but did not issue an official retraction.

LEAPS registration ends Tuesday

Online registration to participate in Saturday's TCU LEAPS program must be completed Tuesday at leaps.tcu.edu.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni can participate in the campus-wide day of service.

At the time of registration, participants can choose a morning site, afternoon site or all-day site. Detailed information is given on the LEAPS website.

Participants spend the day volunteering in the local community and then reflect on their experience.

*Itinerary is based on which session participants select (morning or afternoon)

Student compositions performed at Steinway Hall

Several TCU students' music compositions were chosen by the Fort Worth Contemporary Music Fund and performed at Steinway Hall during the nonprofit performing arts organization's first "Call For Scores" concert.

According to a press release issued by the FWCMF, the concert was a part of the Steinway Chamber Music Concert Series and was held March 18 at Steinway Hall in Fort Worth. TCU pianist Eduardo Rojas, a piano performance graduate student, and Katharine Steffens, a voice performance graduate student, were scheduled to perform the chosen composed music.

Seniors steal the show in Lady Frogs’ season conclusion

The Lady Frogs were upended by Oral Roberts, 78-74, in the opening round of the Women's NIT at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Thursday night, but seniors Helena Sverrisdottir and Emily Carter both made marks in the school's record books during their final game in TCU uniforms.

With the loss, the Horned Frogs closed the year with a 22-11 record, while Oral Roberts improved to 22-10 and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. Overall, the Lady Frogs hoisted 33 triples Thursday night, which ranks No. 3 all-time in a single-game in program history, connecting on 12 of them.

Lady Frogs fight to stay in Women?s National Invitation Tournament

The TCU women's basketball team will continue post-season play against Oral Roberts University in an effort to cage the Golden Eagles and avoid elimination from the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Thursday.

During the ESPN NCAA selection show Monday, TCU was not one of the 64 college names revealed in the bracket. Senior guard Helena Sverrisdottir said the team watched just in case they made the tournament; however, they realized their odds of going to the big dance were low.

Divers compete at NCAA Region ?D? Diving Championships

TCU divers Kyle Callens and Katie Lybbert closed the 2011 season over the weekend at the NCAA Region "D" Diving Championships inside the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Callens, the TCU record holder on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, finished 15th overall on the 1-meter board with a cumulative score of 567.00. The Deer Park, Texas, native scored a 290.75 in the prelims to qualify for the finals before notching 276.25 points in the finals.

After giving Houston Baptist University their first win of the season, TCU's baseball team rallied behind the leadership of senior second baseman Jerome Pena and junior shortstop Taylor Featherston in route to a 6-1 victory and a series win at Lupton Stadium.

"Everyone's kind of excited about this win, but we can't forget what happened yesterday," Pena said. "That"s going to be in the back of our minds for a little bit."
