Day of the Dead: Celebrating the life of loved ones

To most people, the sight of a skeleton or skull is not exactly a friendly one. But for those who practice Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead on Nov. 1 and 2, it is one of celebration and remembrance.

Miguel Leatham, an anthropology professor who studies Mexican religion and folklore, said that it was not until recently that Americans, mostly Southwesterners, started celebrating Dia de los Muertos. With the growth of Mexican immigrants came the growth of the holiday.

Charlotte Berry, a sophomore film-TV-digital media major, thought most FTDM students planned to work in film careers. A new FTDM class, television news production, which will become available in the spring, could cause FTDM students to consider careers in television news as well.

"This will give them a hands-on experience with television and broadcasting," Berry said. "So maybe that will make them want to go into television more than just film and give them a broader opportunity in the real world."

2,500 yards of swimming, 30 miles of biking and 10 miles of running. For the average person, this could be a daunting task. For members of the TCU triathlon club, it's just an average week.

After less than two months of training as a group, members of the triathlon club, Tri Frogs, are preparing to compete in the club's first triathlon event, the Monster Triathlon, in Keller on Sunday. The group, which is in its first semester as an official club, is open to students, faculty and staff, said Tri Frog member Jason Eagar, associate director of the TCU Leadership Center.

Dueling columns: Will Frogs tackle BCS dreams?

Frogs must put constant pressure on Hall

The Frogs have faced teams with prolific offenses for the past two years with great star power to back up highly-ranked team stats. This season the Frogs have already stopped Clemson running back C.J. Spiller and have come out victorious against an Air Force team that was ranked second in the nation in rush offense at the time.

But TCU hasn't faced an offense like this.
